I was playing with a little chip crappie one time that was barely hooked on my minnow rig trying to get him to come off the hook right at the boat without bringing him in the boat when a huge largemouth came from the depths and took him off the hook for me. The largemouth hit the crappie head first... I guess is the only way he avoided the cold steel of my hook. It freaked me out seeing it happen so suddenly and unexpectedly and with a big splash of his tail he was gone to the depths as quickly as he appeared. I'm glad he missed the hook, because more than likely the way he caught me so off guard... he would have prolly took rod and all with him.
Found a dead snake with a crappie lodged in its mouth once.
Many years ago on a small private lake in E Tx, the kids were catching perch so we took a few and used them for trout line bait. Next morning found that a crappie had taken the perch and a big black bass has taken the crappie. All three still together when we pulled up the line! Still wish we'd had a camera!
Great story Okie Bob, I wish you would have had a camera also (that would have been a great photo) .........
Once in Canada while walleye fishing I hooked a fish and all of the sudden it felt really big. Pulled it up to the boat and was a 1+lb walley with a in the mouth of an 8+ lb Northern pike. Wish phone cameras were available 20 yrs ago.
