    Default Mountain Lake

Thinking about taking a trip down to Mountain Lake down near Springer. I am taking the kayak, I've never been down there. Has any one fished that little lake and if so what are some areas to focus on that may hold some crappie. Thanks in advance

Don't know about crappie but several years ago or so there were big bass. This article was back in January talking about hundreds of dead fish washing up on shore.

Hope it ain't from Golden Algae blooms that wiped out Lake Altus.

DrNip I think the lake in the article is in SW Oklahoma. The little lake I'm talking about is just a little north of Ardmore right off i35

You are correct. The fish kill was at Quartz Mountain. I have never heard anything about Crappie in Mountain Lake. Stands to reason there would be some.

Oops. I thought the article said Mountain Lake. The article I posted is about the Golden Algae. I'm not mistaken about the bass years back though, lol. Sorry for the confusion.

I think I may just have to go check it out next weekend. Either there or Arbuckle I can't make up my mind but I do know I need to get away to some clear water for a day or two

    x2 on the clearer water.

I would love to fish Arcadia but last year when I went they charged me $9 for a one day fishing pass!!! Can't imagine what a boat pass would cost. It's not clear water but something different than they same old OKC lake scene which gets boring fast.

The last time I was at Arbuckle (about a month ago) the water was very grungy looking - like a minor algae bloom or like the lake turned over. I haven't been back since - will probably wait till into the winter to go there. I'm going to Eufaula for a few days next week and hope the Porum/Brooken area is mostly clear. I'm tired of the Red Earth lakes, as well. If the Crappie don't cooperate I'll look for brownies. I did hear someone from COE make the statement Bigfoot was in the Brooken area raiding campers Twinkies, tho'.

    p.s. I don't go to Arcadia!

Have any of you fellas happen to fish Lake Longmire down by Pauls Valley? I google earthed it an it appeared to be loaded with timber. How's water clarity if anyone has been there.

R.C. Longmire has been a good Bass, Catfish and Crappie lake for me. The timber lines it's many creeks and only some of it is visible when the water is normal. I haven't fished it in a few years because the water has been so low. Last I knew, the boat ramps were still high and dry. Wish it would get back up to normal.

not a real clear lake but not bad either.
