Thank you all for your kind words and prayers in our behalf. This is the most beautiful place we have ever been with the kindest and most patient people on earth. In ten minutes we drive from our home in the mountains to the sea shore, passing roadside retail stands every hundred yards. Today we traveled thru a new town where nearly every stand featured strange fish. Soon I will be able to post a few pictures of them I hope. I thought I was pretty smart packing two Calcutta reels in my 100 lb. allotment until I got here and cannot find a rod to attach them to anywhere! Closest thing I have seen to Ranger's cast and drag method is a guy in a dugout throwing out a handline with a coconut bobber and something small on the hook end while his partner paddled like crazy . Protein is pretty precious here. I realized that when I stopped to talk to a man fishing in the ocean in a rocky area. Mono handline with tiny worms. Also in his bait bucket were three fish maybe three inches long. Before I could embarrass myself by admiring his bigger baits he proudly let me know that was dinner for his family. Yes, I'm feeling pretty grateful for how easy I have it here and back home. If I ever find a rod or figure out how to make one I do have two freshwater holes staked out. Supposed to be full of milk fish, which are delicious. They are also part of two fish farms so my Cebuano language negotiating skills may come into play......when I learn Cebuano......if I learn Cebuano.

I hope George and his wife are ok after the devastating typhoon that hit the Philippines. Will be praying for them.
Amen. Just read this thread, start to finish. After hearing about the typhoon that just about devastated the Philippine Islands, I too am praying they are safe. Last I heard, over 1000 dead, and the count is still rising. Also praying for all the lives there.
Been trying to contact George with no success can only lift up prayers for George, his wife, family, and the people of the Philippines.....Ranger

Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes. We are perfectly fine here on our island of Negros where we were spared the devastation suffered by so many on Leyte. We were hit by another, smaller typhoon yesterday so I was out late into the night wading through floodwaters and carrying kids to my Ford Trekker ( Ranger) then hauling the families back to our local church which is set up as an evacuation center. We fully expected that Typhoon (hurricane) Yolanda or Haiyan would destroy our island paradise but Leyte seemed to blunt the fury of the winds as the storm hit us and then it picked back up once over the ocean again and regained intensity. Many of our new friends here have families on nearby Leyte so we are filling up our truck for a rescue supplies trip to Tacloban soon. Mary and I are not very necessary in all this but our truck is a rare and vital resource so we get many opportunities to serve. We are actually heading out right now for a trip up the mountain where we expect to find people in good shape. Our Internet here is spotty when the weather is good like today but when it is stormy service goes down. The next two months is typhoon season so I may lose touch again but I want each of you to know that here so far away from home and loved ones it really means a lot to see that we are not yet forgotten. Thank you. Will try to stay in touch more consistently.
Thank the lord. It's good to hear from you.
