Hey Cruz, another thing you may want to play with while you have your unit out is the sensitivity of the Down Imaging. I believe the default setting is "10". For whatever reason, I normally have to set the sensitivity on the Down Imagining or in the case of my 1197 and 798 - the side imagining, higher by one or two points above the sonar. There'll be times you'll need to turn it down and other times you need to turn it up to get the best pictures and to show the most detail.
Also don't forget about the frequencies.
There's a lot to learn, but it's fun learning. My buddy just bought a 597 hd di and he's been going through the same thing. It usually takes a few trips to get these units dialed in, but when you do, you'll swear by 'em and not at 'em!

I just got one in and am having it installed. It's my first depth finder of any kind, and I can tell I've got a lot to learn.

Yea that are crazy compared to the old ones the will do just about anything you want
