I suggest we give Leland time to do a feasibility study on getting the Expo Center in McAlester. If it turns out to be beyond our means, then we can consider other options.
I think it's a grand idea to have it at the Expo Center where we will have plenty of parking and space inside.
These "Get-Togethers" keep growing each year, we'll have to have a larger facility.:)
Ok, I am back from the Farm. Now that my caregiving is over I will have some free time, HA HA. If we have a date I can start harassing, excuse me, asking vendors if they might be interested in coming. I don't know if I am going to make the slip bobbers again. That was alot of work and I have not used one since I made them last year. That may change this year though. I know that BEE READY Rod Holders were game if the price is right as well as Lucky Lure Co. I'll discuss with Leland and stink and see WHAT HAPPENS.
I gotta make it to this one. I didn't hear one person say it could have been any better last year. Sure look forward to going no matter where its held. I'd be glad to help too.
Another thought...,If we do manage to lease the Expo understand the general public must be allowed in as well to help offset the cost, which I dont see as a problem as we can all see fellow members there anyway.
If anyone thinks this would dilute the format of our CDC format, then we would need to lease a private building,ie; community center, county fairgrounds ect.
Your thoughts please so this can be resolved quickly.
Remember, we know each other through the CDC but we are not bound by it.
Is this open to all? Think it would be great to meet all of you people!
Fanatic, yes it is open to all. We have been having an annual meeting initiated by CDC members but has always been open to the public. It is a chance to put a face with a screen name. We always eat well at these events and usually have a guide give a talk about different techniques. Last year we had 4 or 5 vendors come and talk about their products.
Lip I am game for more than a one day gig. I do like the idea of having a meeting type get-together on one of the 3 days. The meeting allows for more personable time and to have a seminar geared toward us CDC members or guests. I will help in any way I can and may be able to get some donations also. If the 3 day gig doesn't work out I would at least like to have a Friday evening / Saturday morning get together. Friday could be more of a meet and socialize with maybe one or 2 speakers, then have our regular get-together on Saturday. Just an idea. I'll do whatever I need to. Just hope we get the date set by Dec. 15th so I can schedule a day of vacation.
Odie
Thanks Odie, Don, Southernwoman, Rigrunner, Stink, And George. Sissy and I are on the phone with the McAlester Expo today and will give feedback on our feasability and hammer out some options. After our initial discussions with them they expressed excitement to have one back again and stated "we will work with you to make this happen"....very encouraging in this depressed economy. One thing I've learned over the years fisherman continue to support their sport to the full. We have kicked it around but after last years event it's apparent we need more space and parking. Crappie fishing is now #1 and we know why.
Here's what we know so far;
#1] We have the Expo!!!
#2] Security? Yes it will be provided.
#3] Food ? Yes provided by the Expo.
#4] P.A. System? Yes, also provided.
#5] Seperate room for a CDC meeting? Yes.
All those for late March / early April dates of Thurs. Fri. Sat. Sun. {Turs.} is setup day for vendors} Please cast your votes NOW, so the dates can be published in Oklahoma Today Mag. before Oct 30 deadline.
Also we are writing a request to the city of McAlester for cooperative assistance from them to help with expenses for the show.
Feel free to contact us by phone or P.M. with any ideas or input you feel is needed. Thanks Leland & Sissy.
