Info on Skiatook

First of all I would like to say hi to all. I have been reading these forums for a few weeks now but just joined today. Now for my questions. I have never fished Skiatook but have been looking at it on google maps. It appears that if I head north out of Sand Springs on 97 it turns into pr109 which ends at an old boat ramp on the south end of the west fork of the lake. looks like A LOT of timber in the water near this ramp. Does anyone know anything about this area? Is it a public ramp? How deep is that area? any fish? etc. I generally fish Sahoma or Shell Creek but have been looking for a change in scenery and don't like to put my 10' boat on Keystone. Jigging in and around timber for crappie is my favorite kind of crappie fishing so this area looks great if there is any deep water out there. Thanks in advance for any responses.

That's the problem with Skiatook...all those trees looks like it should be Crappie paradise but I've fished it 4 or 5 times now with a grand total of 3 dinky fish. Last time I swore I was never going back.

It's been about 20 years since I first fished Skiatook. And from looking at my old notes about the spring Crappie fishing, it looks like Turkey Creek was probably the most productive area. Most all the crappie I caught were 10 - 12 inch Black Crappie. The most important thing I noticed about fish location, was not to focus on the trees, but look for the areas of the bottom that had drop offs, creek channel edges, ditches, fence rows and old flooded pond dams. Those type of areas all held the bigger fish. From talking with some of the local fishermen most of the bigger Crappie were being caught at night.

Thanks for the info guys. How about any other spots within an hour of Sapulpa that are crappie heavy and friendly for a 10' scamp? Like I said earlier I mostly fish Sahoma which is PACKED with little dinks but very few slabs. I mean you can catch 150 fish but only one over 8" and Shell Lake which holds some really nice crappie and in good numbers but can be really hard to find them. Also Sahoma is being drained right now I believe they are working on the spillway so the boat ramp is closed so anyway I'm looking for some new spots to try out. Also I'm looking for places with just the state limits on crappie no special limits like what Claremore has. My brother and I fish to feed the families so we want as many fillets as possible.
