I thought I would share this with those of you who have family who would rather swim, while you would rather fish. Last year, the twins and I had anchored over a really good brush pile in about 19fow. We had been catching fish, but it had slowed down, and the sun had heated up. The girls wanted to swim, and I told them as long as they kept their lifejackets on, to hop in on the side of the boat not over the brush.
I continued to fish.
The bite really picked up for me and the only thing I could come up with was that the splashing and noise they created, spooked the all the Crappie in the area deep into the brush concentrating them. I was catching fish as fast as I could drop a line. It was a win/win for the girls and me.
So, the next time you're with family, and some of them want to swim, let them have at it on the other side of the boat from where you're fishing. You just might be surprised! I'd be interested in hearing if it works for others.
