I have in the past used my permit for two boats. I have a ski boat that i did not ever put the stickers on and i would just carry them in a ziplock with me when i was using my fishing boat.....but, like luck always runs....it would have probably caught up with me. I just buy them for my bass boat and put the stickers on it now....I have been fishing Hefner by boat since 1986 and have never been asked to produce a permit by ocpd....I was not going to buy one last year...but i figured if I had boat trouble and needed a tow by the police boat...i better have a permit...I got a tow from the lake ranger last year at eufaula and they collected all my information on my boat and registration for their paperwork....pays to be prepared!

Does Carl sell permits?.....Last i checked he did not sell them
-
I thought I bought them from him last year? Maybe it was at BPS. FunMart at NW hiway and Meridiam used to sell them too.
-
well....maybe i am wrong....I just know the last time I was there...He had a sign on the door saying he did not have any?????? I just have always gotten them at the funmart
-
I am wrong. I just talked to Carl's and Brandon said that he did not have them yet. He suggested Academy at the front desk, Funmart or Walmart and you have to go to the Sptg goods dept. So I am headed to Academy.

I purchased the boat permit yesterday and got my stickers. There is no mention of boat registration number needed on the permit. I wonder if a person could put one set of stickers on 2 boats? You get 2 sets and put one set on the drivers side. I wonder if you could do that w/o getting in trouble????? May better to put in ziplock and always carry with you. Anybody have any thoughts on this?????????
-
I used to always just carry them in the ziplock with me between the two boats...But, like I mentioned before I never got checked....since 1986!....The worst thing that could happen is you get checked and have to actually put them on.....
-
Yes,that was my thoughts too. They boat police can't really hang you on anything if you tell them you have not gotten around to attaching them. Although they will probably stand over you while you attach them.

Well, I went today around 3pm and fish till 5:30pm along the dam.
I tried all kinds of colors and my home tie jigs also. All we caught are couple of sandbass and my dad caught only 1 crappie. I really don't know where they are at or they may not be biting at all, really slow today. I saw a boat out there at the big bend but he didn't catch anything.
-
I was the boat at the big bend and we ended up catching four crappie and three sandbass. Two of the crappie were skinners but overall fishing was not good at all. I was marking alot of fish between 35 to 45' but they had lockjaw, I tried everything from my homespun jigs to a variety of plastics, hopefully tomorrow will produce a little more im going to also try some minnows tomorrow. Will let ya know, good luck to all.....

Walleye fishin
Can anyone give me some good tips as far as location, baits and what not for catching walleye at hefner in March from a boat or on the bank????
-
went fishing at hefner today....got a late start and did not show up till a little before noon...had the lake to myself for a bit....no wind, no clouds, and lots of sun...i knew it....fish never bite when its nice out!!!! I fished until 4 or so without so much as a bite...about 14 boats on the water when i left....it was a great day for a boat ride, thats about it.
-
You can catch walleye at hefner right now, just work your bait slow and along the rocks.
I generally use tube jigs to catch them, the same I use for crappie fishing. The key is working your bait as slow as possible and about 1 to 2 inches off the bottom of the rocks.
If you are not getting hang ups, then you are not doing it right. I generally get hang up in the rocks when I fish for walleye, but I sometimes able to bend the hook and get my bait back.
Good luck..
-
I heard that the crappie have moved from 32' up to 25' on the dam.
-
Have people been catching fish off the dam at hefner? I haven't been to hefner in a week or better, wanting to go fishin thursday just dont know whether i'll hit hefner or t-bird, longmier in pauls valley is also in the mix. Anyone heard any reports for longmier?
-
hey hotrod....go to thunderbird for sure....hefner is doing nothing right now
-
Went to Hefner today around 3:30pm and fish till 5:30pm.
I caught only 1 walleye and no crappie. My dad did not get a single bite.
Maybe they are in deeper water, but I do know for sure this winter season has not been good at Hefner. I may have to start thinking about fishing other lakes like Canton or others.
Well, that is the report I hope it helps to save you guys time and fuel.
-
That doesn't really suprise me at all...seems like hefner is the last lake I fish that seems to do anything at all...and when it does I usually only catch dinks....but, it is close and if I am going to get skunked I would rather do it for under a gallon of gas...lol
-
does anyone know if the crappie haved moved up any shallower at hefner
-
I haven't found any but you never know. Let us know if you get out and try.

Lake Hefner has been getting runoff for the last 48 hours. I do not expect there will be enough to raise the water level to the ramps. But it will provide drinking water for a few more days in this drought for 177,000 people.
-
The lake has gained 1.4 feet of runoff in 72 hours. Now pray for more runoff on Wednesday and Thursday.
-
-
The runoff added enough drinking water to last 8 days for the 177,000 people. Hefner now has approx. 7 weeks of water left before the intake pipe may not be usable.
-
Does anyone have a water level update for Hefner after the rain?
