I will second what reaper said. I live in Wichita and he's the only one who works on mine. Yea it's a drive to him but he's worth it never had to take anything back to him.

After the gas hog of my 84 V6 gave me trouble at Hugo, I put three carb kits into the dual carbs, replaced the VRO fuel pump with the two stacked pumps off the motor I bought for the lower unit. This solved my main issue of big motor not wanting to run. Now fine tuning is a different story. The high and low jets are fixed at the factory and there are no adjustments that can be made. I've been running the motor but it hasn't wanted to idle right so I've had to used the fast idle lever to start it each time, then lower it and jamb the boat into gear before she died. Will get up on plane with no problems and tops out around 50 mph per Lowrance GPS. The coughing and sputtering at idle made me think the timing was off a little since I was getting fire on all 6 cylinders.
A simple text message to Kelly Davis, the Marine Guru I've told you all about so many times set me up an appoinment after he got in from work this evening. In a short hour, he went through the timing and several other checks and adjustments from throttle cable to carb linkage, timing, spark tester, etc, and also found a zip tie allowing air to leak into the system causing part of my trouble. (it sent up a smoke signal every now and then) I tell you guys he's magic when it comes to working on a struggling motor.
She's running a lot better now than before I took it over there and it was worth the trip knowing I'll be treated with honesty and fairness. I've got a few more connections to use a hose clamp and get rid of the zip ties and she should be good to go. It sure makes a big difference to simply touch the key and to hear that big V6 fire off.
I want to thank Kelly for seeing me on such short notice! He's the best I've ever seen at his craft.

Stop wasting your money on the mechanics that guess their way through and give Kelly a try. You'll be glad you did!

Yes this is the guy I was talking about.
Hey Reaper,
What town is he in? I got one that needs help.
He's in Inola....
Thanks I need to call him. It's about 1.5 hr drive from me, but if he is good it is worth not messing with some of the ones around here.
