Had a surprise on the big O today, whispered up a black crappie... lol. Only the second one I've ever caught on Oologah. It wasn't very big, but I treated it like it was a 2lber. Sure was pretty, wish the state would stock a bunch more in the lake. It's really rare to catch one on Oologah. Fished with the wife and brought home 15 keepers, caught a bunch of dinks too. Seem to be stuck on 15 the last couple of weekends. Jigs did better than minnows today. Maybe when the weather stabilizes after the hurricane moves east the bite will get better. Had to use our cell phone to take a picture of the speck today. It was too small to keep and didn't have my camera with me in the boat.

Looks like you caught some big girls to go with that speck Whisperer. You gotta keep a ruler in that cooler so your fans can gauge the size of the whisperees! How deep were they? I have been in Canada with my wife eating walleye for a week but they were hitting shallow over deeper brush when I left. Thanks for the pictures. I too love those black crappie. Have caught a few nice ones at Chouteau Bend but never any numbers.

Crappie ciller, the fish I've been catching have been in shallow brush piles 10 to 12 feet deep. Lots of shad moving shallower now and more to come this Fall. Brush piles in 10 to 15 ft will be good for the next couple of months.

The wife and I got a late start and made it out on the lake at 10:30 this morning. Tried to fish a few spots and the fish were biting, but the wind just made it too tough to hang on the spots. Met Reaper on the water and he offered us his fish. He gave us 7 nice fish, one of his fish was 15 inches and another 14 inches. Peggy and I caught some good fish too, we caught 10 keepers and another 15 throwbacks. So we ended up with 17 with Reapers keepers too. Not too bad for a windy day, with a north wind. No real pattern to speak of, we fished different depths everywhere we fished. Jigs did the best today. Tried some tube jigs i bought the other day, they worked good. Just wanted to try something old school, at least for me these days. Red, black, and chartreuse.

Nice day Whisperer! I like the tube jigs personally. Drives my son crazy when I outfish him with my retro gear. How much does a 15" crappie on oologah weigh? I may never get the chance to find out in person.

Maybe 1.5 to 1.75 at most. Last month the majority of the bites were dinks under 9". It's starting to even out a little and every once in a while hook onto something you want to grab the net when trying to boat them.


Crappie are not schooled up for now. Give the water a little more cooling time. They seem to be spread out and every now and then you can catch more than one from a spot. None of the newer piles have been holding fish and some of them seem to have disappeared. The remnants of the older brush seem to be holding the bigger fish. I was doing good yesterday until the wind just got too much for me to fish. I tried a couple of more places and couldn't get bit, so I eased over to Kevin and his bride to donate what I had so I could go take a nap. The Vada point ramp is EXTREMELY bad right now due to low water. There is a big rock not far from the end of the ramp that one is gauranteed to bump. I launch using the trolling motor with blade barely in the water to get me into deeper water. It's almost impossible to ease back into the ramp and not hit something on the bottom with the boat and big motor up as high as I dare. Careful if you launch at Vada!

Craig its the same on Eufaula and Gibson now with the crappie being scattered. Its the time of year and still in a summer time pattern. Occasionally I catch several from a pile of wood or rock but not often. You do not have to beg them to bite though, and if they are there they will jump all over your jig or minner. You have to do lot of moving from wood to wood or rock which may be the case but they are there for the taking. The fish I have been catching are on the transition from shallow to deep water on the shallow side in 6' to 12' DOW. As you said when the water starts to cool it will pick up and those elusive crappie will most certainly be relating to wood and rock and be much easier to fill the LW.....Good Luck buddy....Ranger
