One hour........ no fish, only wind. Dock was bouncing in the waves and making a strange sound akin to a blacksmith forging a new sword. But did hook into something, not sure, but might have been a catfish, but whatever it was was big and strong, took my minnows on the crappie rig and wrapped them around some pvc structure and had my rod doubled before escaping. Came home, had a bite to eat, then laid up in bed all afternoon like a wino.
I hope the crappie return to our dock by this weekend. Stink, are you going to come watch me catch them again on Saturday? :Rofl And no, I'm not going to give up my favorite spot. :biggrin
Pappa and Nip, if you guys strike out at the triangle on Saturday, come on down to Rock Creek Cove. If we are at the dock, come and join us. Even if we don't catch anything, it's still a good time shared with friends. Mine is the 2-slip dock next to the boat ramp on the East side of the cove.
I'm going to join Pappa and a very special guest in his boat come Saturday. We'll be on a hawg huntin mission.
I'll be at Thunderbird this weekend. We were just at rock creek cove last Sunday though.
Nip, what time were you in Rock Creek Cove last Sunday? Stink and I were fishing on the dock from about 11 - 3.
CHECrappie -- the triangle is the area between Hwy 69, Hwy 9 and Hwy 9A. It's a pretty large area. Lots of sandies caught along the rip rap along Hwy 69. We always see bank fishing going on just inside the triangle by Hwy 9A bridge where large rocks are located. When the water was down, there's an area just South of there that exposed a sandy beach area that was accessible by land. Now the water is up, that area is submerged (but not deep enough to take a boat over it).
Reaper, the offer still stands for you, Pappa and special guest if you don't have any luck in the triangle - come find Stink and I at the dock. I'll have a cold beer ready for you.
It seems a little early for the triangle I would try around the islands at crowder or make a boat trip down coal creek
Coal creek is what I've been talking for weeks now.
Did you take the creek all the way back to the next highway bridge nip?
Started this morning at 8am and closed the LW lids at 1:10pm with a limit of 37. Fished natural banks today on the south end of the lake. Early while it was cloudy they were shallow in 2'-4' DOW. When the sun burned the clouds off they moved deeper to 5'-7' and also caught some staging fish in 9'-11' on top of piles. Was a great day catching over 75 crappie. Technique was double dipping jigs, 2 rods in hand, 2 3/16oz Timmy Toms Weedless on each, and Mikes Custom Baits in Blk/Chartreuse, Pumpkin/Chartreuse, and Orange\Chartreuse. Fish slow and into the wind to keep your line vertical. Great Day On Eufaula and it's only going to get better......Ranger
Great report Mark!
Mark, come drink, I mean fish with us Saturday at the dock. I'll show you how to fish with minnows and you can show me how to fish with jigs :Rofl
Glad to hear the good news of limiting out. But starting at 8am? That's way early for me!
Good report Mark.....gotta fish slow is all that i have found out lately....we used some Timmy Toms yesterday in the brushpiles and drug out a couple
Andy
Dang it Toon, all this talk of drink makes me want to stop by next time I'm in town!
Yup. Pretty much just holdin the bait still waiting for the strike. Soon though it won't matter. I've killed them in the past during spawn with a fast retrieve.
Caught a few heavy ones on the dock this evening.north end about ten foot deep and let it set.really soft bite on a big orange yum
Went down Mill Creek again and caught nothing at the park, but as I moved towards the bridge on the eastern side, the water got warmer and warmer, so I went out there and threw a bobber in the water and nothing for about an hour. The sun started going down, so I put my rod and reel away and grabbed my telescopic cane pole and jigged the brush on the banks. Caught 3 over the course of the hour. All keepers. One had eggs, so hopefully that's a sign of things to come.

Had a fun day catching some big slabs with cpd21 today.shallow water pigs!!!
Again back down south trying to match Wesnesdays catch. Well I came up short just a tad with 36. Fish had moved from 2-4' to 9-11' at 8' deep. Bigger baits worked much better than the smaller baits. Blk/Pink was the top color today and Pumpkin/Chartreuse running a close 2nd. Technique was Double Dipping with Timmy Toms Weeess Jigs and Mikes Customs Baits. WT had cooled in 2 days from 65 to 57 and didn't warm a single degree today. Sure miss them flip flops and shorts but better day ahead.......Ranger
Headed to either the triangle or blocker bridge in the mourning either way me and my 9 year old boy going to try hard to put some fish in the boat. You guys will hear the mud buddy coming bright and early
Been at the dock for a couple of hours and only caught 1 keeper. Wind was light out of the north when i gor here. Now its picking up and out of the SW. Bite has been very slow.
Fished another 5 hrs and only put 2 more nice ones in the basket. Had been fishing 4-8' in 20 FOW. Went down to 11-12' and that's where i got the last 2.
Hope its better next wknd.
Me and my boy fished from 730 till 430 at the blocker bridge . We had a blast caught 25 keepers and lots of dinks and a few catfish. Cold boat ride in the mourning but what a beautiful day. I'm so lucky to have a son that wants to fish instead of playing video games . Sure hope to hit it again next Saturday
Tuff couple of days on this lake for me. Found fish but couldn't get bit. Didn't matter what I did or didn't do, wouldn't work. Went to Gaines yesterday and while I love it, it literally whipped our rears! Today the wind kept us hemmed up most the day. Beginning to think I didn't plant enough onions!
And, ran into WSD while out and about. Hope he was able to swing some.
You know Allen, some just have the knack to catch them and some don't. I'm in the same catagory as you, I can't catch any anything these days.
I planted onions for ya Allen! Seriously, I did today. You should have hollered at me for a report. I drove to Gaines yesterday morning and people were loading up and leaving. After talking with a few of them I decided not to launch and went to mid-lake. Fishing wasn't great but ended up with about 15 keepers after fishing hard and boating around for 7 hours. Caught three real big girls, one big male and the rest were the typical 3/4 to 1 pounders, not many dinks. Two of males caught were starting to go dark. With the warm weather this week I am hoping they will be getting on the banks in a big way.
Was able to get out today for about 2.5 hrs this evening. Fished crowder area and ended up with 11 keepers. Color of choice was black/pink fished 9 ft in 10-11 fow.
Fished North end of the lake yesterday and only managed four keepers out of 9 caught . Fish were still off the banks in 6-9 foot range . Jigged quite a bit of brush in less than 3 foot of water and no hits . The air temp of 53 wasn't the ticket to get them to move up on the banks and the North wind probably didn't help either . Always next weekend
Only managed to put 1 more keeper in the basket on Sunday after a couple of hours. Seems like its getting worse before the spawn. Hope things pick up this week -- I have a buddy coming down and he's hopeing to catch lots of fish.
Question though, one of the females I cleaned up on Sunday had one sack of eggs in tact, but the other sack had basically fallen apart and the yellow color was all over the rib area. There shouldn't be anything wrong with filets - correct? I had just never seen this happen before.
Guide Saturday and Sunday this weekend. The bite was tough on saturday but still managed 25 keepers fish were shallow 2-3ft deep in 4.5 ft of water. Sunday we had 30 on a 1/2 day trip the bite was really good we were targeting fish on breaklines in 7-9ft on wood. The best baits were blk/pink slab slayers both days. We were double dippin 1/4 ounce heads with 3' slab slayers. The fish are really starting to bite. EB
