We fished yesterday and caught 8 fish all day fro 10-5. water temp was 59 degrees and the parts of the creek were muddier than others!! This was the worst day of fishing I have had in 2 years!! That wind was unbearable!! I have fished on some pretty bad days weather wise but sunday it was rediculous! " I would rather fish in the rain than in the wind anyday". EB
hey eb sorry to hear about your bad trip sunday i suppose it was in gaines we have been catchin them on the norh end lately and down around coal creek some. until this front pushed in
thanx for the report
WILDMAN
A buddy and I went down Friday and came back today. We cleaned 117 slabs!! Friday was tough we caught 20 that were scattered through out the creek fishing in 12ft half on minnows and half on jigs about 5-8ft. Seen some guys on the bank fishing with minnows were them out. Saturday went back out on the boat and only caught two. On the way back talked to a local and he said some guys off the bank had caught 73 so we decided to try a little doddle socking. We ended up with 57 slabs mostly males. They were in about 4ft of water on the outside of the buck brush. Sunday was too cold to wade but we still caught 40 fishing a jig with a bobber about 20 inches deep. Went today for about 15 minutes and froze out and got blanked. I will go back down Wednsday when it warms up and try it again. They are wanting to come to the bank if the weather would cooperate.
Slab, thanks for the report. Sounds like you guys had a good trip. I think they are ready also, if the weather would just cooperate a little. What part of the lake were you guys fishing North or South end? I am thinking about heading down Wed. Trying to decide whether to go way south or stay up north. It is a lot closer for me to the north end but don't mind driving south if that is where the bite is.
Congrats Slab! That will make for some good fish fries. What was the size range and average?
I always enjoy hearing positive reports, especially from you guys that have to travel to get her. Keepem coming!:)
Deerhunter, we fished the south end around Juniper Point. Sorry for the late response hope you found them today. We went back to the same area today and caught 38 between 3 guys. Same depth as posted above. All the fish came from doddle socking except one from cork and jig. The bigger fish were bitting this weekend the average size was 11"-15". Today all were around the 10"-11" range. Bobby Garland jigs (slabslayer and straight tail) Chartruse and White seemed to work the best. I hope to get back down Friday if I can get the okay from the wife. My vacation has been all about me trying to stock up on the crappie so I am starting to here about it a little. She loves to eat the rewards though so that helps!!
Slab, we fished rock creek from 9:30 to 5:30. Had similar results as you guys. There were 2 of us and we cleaned 42. Most were 10-11 inches caught in 1-7 feet of water. We caught 29 keepers before noon. All but 3 were caught in about 6-7 feet of water on electric chicken bobby garlands. We thought the afternoon would just get better but it slowed way down. We tried shallow also and managed to catcth a few. We talked to several people and everyone said it had been slow. Several of the fish we caught were females that had already spawned.
hey slabseeker could u tell me what is doddle socking i have heard of this but dont know what it is thanks
