Were you able to check the water temp?
Water temp in creek was 56-59 degrees
Fished Gentry Creek yesterday from 1:15 to 5:30 caught 13 on minnows good fish 8ft of water 4ft deep no luck on jigs.
Plan on fishing Crowder area tomorrow. Any Info. available? Jig or Minnows?
I 'heard' minnows up to 10 ft WD at 4-5 foot. But hearsay only Hatt. Still think it rising so take it for what it's worth. Worth looking for sure. Thinking north end of lake is still a bit down the road. We'll see!
Fished South end today most areas are muddy from all the rain Saturday. Had 10 keepers today, most fish were 10-12ft over 12-15fow. A few fish were upon that 7-9ft but not very many. I know the water on the north end looks alot better than the south end. Hope they turn on, it's just not right being spring break and not seeing many boats on I40. I will not be on Eufaula tomorrow. EB
Hat, hope you do well in the Crowder area. I was headed to McAlester on 69 last weekend and saw about 10 boats just South of the boat ramp in Crowder. So I figured there must be something good happening to see that many close to each other.
My dad is fishing crowder area today, hopefully I can give a report later on. I fished I-40 the other day and not a bite nor another boat???
Fished Crowder area day before yesterday and had 5 crappie. As bad as I have ever seen it but then I was reminded that it's been a very harsh winter with below normal temps for most of it. WT's were in the hi 40's in the creek and after looking at my last years archives it was 56 to 58 degrees last year on the same day. It's just going to take a few warm nights and plenty of sunshine..........Ranger
I was looking at the posts from last years lake eufaula report and your right there is a big big difference between now and then. Since I am pretty new at living at the lake and didn't know what to expect I thought it might help to check out the old info.. nope :) totally different this year.
Not a nibble today. Saw Todd Huckabee catch 2 small ones. Saw one other fish caught, out of all the boats there. WT 50 t0 55.
Dad didn't do any good today either. Sure hope it picks up soon.
Still just a bit early, but its still fun to get out and wet a hook.
Dad just called and said they have bout 10 keepers and 4-5 throw backs so far. Wt is around 51 deg in the crowder area. Not sure what depth he's fishing but he says all fish are off minnows, can't find a jig they want???
Fished the big E from 4 till dark yesterday after work. Cleaned 44 good ones. Spider rigging minnows 4 to 6 feet deep in 8 to 10 FOW.. Fish were still biting when darkness overtook us.
What is big E? Not very good with acronyms.:dono
Big E is short for Eufaula Lake.......Ranger
Thanks. Love learning something new everyday!
Blanked out on Friday evening. Found fish on sonar but nothing would bite no matter what u put in there face. No it wasn't just me cause no one was catching em. Graves creek. Wt was 56
Fished off our dock on Sunday in Rock Creek Cove. Not a nibble. WT was 51. Left the rods in rod holders -- came back 3 hours later and not a single minnow was missing.
I didn't have any luck off of our dock in longtown either this weekend. going to take the boat out after work one day this week maybe I'll find a few than.
Fished crowder, blocker, and rock creek areas yesterday. Caught lots of throw backs and cleaned 45. Technique was rod in hand with best colors being blk/chrt , blk/pink. Most fish were caught at 10ft in 12-14 fow. Wt was from 50-55 deg.
Water temp is going to have to go up at least 7-8 degrees before the crappie even think about coming in shallow in preparation to spawn. This weekend the weather is supposed to be warmer and that will be a start on warming the water some. I still think we are weeks away from the spawn, but like I said before, I hope I'm wrong.
Stink they are still eating ;)
Visited Molly brown dock today. Except for an hour it was very slow. Caught 15 kept 8 nice ones
Long day at crowder and surrounding areas. Water was 47.5 to start and 52 in the afternoon. Fish are definitely not in spawn mode yet, had to work for them and they are hitting soft. Best depth was 15 feet deep on breaks from 15 to 18 FOW. Caught 15 with a couple of big fat sows in the mix. Some fish are in there but just not very active yet. Last year at this time it was loaded with fish and they were smacking it hard, but it was about 10 degrees warmer. Today I spider rigged, vertically jigged, and cast a roadrunner. I used minnows and jigs and minnow and jig combos. Everything caught a few fish but the best was vertical jigging super slow with jig and minnow combo.
Good report Fishers, EB
Do you think this rain will lock their lips for a while? It is supposed to be a warm rain tomorrow and in the 60s Friday and Saturday and in the 70s Sunday.
Glad you posted Fishers!
Fished Gentry Creek area today 1:30 till dark caught 15 on minnows 8ft of water 4ft deep hitting hard bite was best during the rain
Fished the north end again yesterday same depth as before caught 12 good fish between 3:00 and 4:30
I wanted to start posting reports, crappie fishing rules, and history on Eufaula this week to maybe help guys are going to be fishing our cdc tournament Saturday April 5.
Crappie Rules:
1. Never beg them to bite
2. Remember your fishing for a 1.50 avg not 75 11inch fish
3. Find good visibilty (6 inch to foot is great but 1-2 inch is tough fishing)
4. Watch your water temps!
Crappie Tournament history:
1. Most tournaments won here are 7 females
2. Most tournaments are won on the south end( From 9A bridge south)
3. Most all tournaments in the last 12 years in spring have been won slow vertical trolling (Either spider rigging or double dipping) Some have been won anchoring up as well!
Crappie Reports:
Last weekend lots of fish were being caught in the Gentry creek area and Crowder Rock Creek area's. When the water warms up close to 60 degrees waves of fish come up into coves and creeks. There are a ton of creeks on Eufaula epsecially on the south end. Also lots of big crappie are caught on rip rap this time of year.
I hope this helps everyone
EB
EB, thanks for posting some rules. This is one of the most helpful posts I have seen in a long time. Question" when you say "Watch your water temps", what am I watching for? AND, "Don't beg them to bite"; how do I know when it's time to move? I'm one of those guys that like to anchor. :) Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks again.
Good stuff EB!
EB ....Great information! Would you comment on the which colors of jig and soft bait you recommend in different water clarity conditions i.e. stained water, clear water. etc?
Search function is your friend whether searching for "when to move" , "what color jig for what conditions", etc.
You're it Brian ! Lol
Fished solo on the south end today. Began fishing around 10:30. For the first hour and a half the bite was very aggressive and caught fish 4-7 ft deep over 8-15 fow. The shad seemed congregated along rock ledges I'm assuming they were blown in against the bank because of the strong south winds yesterday. There were times when fish even chased shad to the surface. This first hour and a half I caught fish on slip corks and tight lines using minnows but the most fish came on slip corks. The second hour and a half the bite became much slower and fish seemed to move a little deeper. Most of these were caught on tight lines 8-10 ft deep over the same water. The bite became much softer and fish were difficult to hook. I ended the day fishing for 3 hours catching 30+ and keeping 23. Water temp in this area was 53° all day. I will try to attach a pic of the 7 biggest but am somewhat new to this so we will see. The decoy in the background is a little over 13".Attachment 156298
