Guess I forgot to report on my trip last Friday morning. Not a good trip but, just being on the water is enough for me.
Bobby and I launched from Little Glasses a little after 7 am and headed to Bridgeview area. Water temp showed just over 60 degrees and I thought something was wrong with my Lowrance. Checked the unit on the bow and it was reading the same! Temp gradually went up from then till we quit around 11 am.
We found a few brushpiles in the coves south and east of the Bridgeview marina but, all were shallow and we couldn't get bit. Wind started picking up but, we wanted to
try the Rosevelt Bridge and headed that way. We marked fish on some of the bridge pillars but, the wind was getting really heavy and I didn't want to fight the trolling motor bad enough to see if they would bite. Did tie up to a big tree next to one of the pillars but it was still too rough to do any good. So we headed to the western end of the bridge, a little out of the wind and tied to a rope someone had left around a pillar. I was marking fish but, they were stripers and I hung one about 19". Released him and left the bridge searching for some coves out of the wind.
We made it to the north end of the Glasses arm and tried some brushpiles we had marked in the past. Caught three crappie but, all were dinks.
We were only marking a few fish anywhere we went. We looked shallow, we looked deep. We just couldn't find them, got tired of fighting the wind and headed in.
Believe the water temp had made it to about 64 but, the south wind was just too much to enjoy staying out longer.
I went to the OK Fish & Game website and have written down the locations of 'fish attractors' on other area lakes I want to fish. There are some really good looking
lakes around Ardmore, actually Ardmore has 4 city lakes that they maintain and all look like great crappie potential. Bobby says we have to get an annual permit to fish them, same as you have to do at Texoma. $10 won't kill me so that isn't a problem.
If the weatherman is anywhere near correct with his forecast for this week, I doubt I'll be getting out. If possible, I will.
Nice report Okie Bob! Your closing the noose on the crappie !
Been landlocked for a few weeks but, had a chance to get out by myself today.
Went to Lake Jean Neustat just north of Ardmore and on the west side of I-35. You have doubtless seen it heading south on I-35.
Real nice little lake that gets virtually no fishing pressure. It is one of four Ardmore lakes that the city owns and maintains. You need a yearly permit of $10 to fish all four of them unless like me you are over 65 yo.
I have no idea how long ago the lake was made but, the bottom is extremely clean. No brush, no structure at all except way up the arms in very shallow water. Some timber in them.
But, the Fish and Wildlife Dept has put out 10 fish attractors that didn't attract anything but me today. I hit all 10 of them and didn't get bit once! Didn't mark any fish either. Saw one shad ball in the middle of the lake but, couldn't mark anything else. Had quite a few LMB's hitting bate on the surface but, that's it.
Water was 50 degrees when I launched about 8 am and saw 54 later in the day.
Just thought I'd add this since I'm caught up on chores and waiting for morning to head to Norman for Bedlam football!
BOOMER
Bob- don't expect me to give you a follow up SOONER. I am hoping for a COWBOY miracle!
DK, that would be like me catching a 4# crappie today...and I ain't gonna be on the water today!!!
