Lake Carl Blackwell does require a permit to enter park. You can purchase a yearly permit for 50 or 80 with boat or a daily pass that is 5 dollars. The dock is not huge but it does allow for fishing all around the outside and fiahing inside is comfortable with 12 people fishing. Think the ranger said there was a total of 39 people at dock yesterday at one point
Josh, awesome catch, save a few for me. I hope to be over right after the first of the year!
Sounds like road trip is in order!
Well, I think I'm gonna go up and check it out tomorrow. Supposed to be a beautiful day so the Crappie bite may not be good, but it should be a good day for a road trip. I'll try and take some photos of the dock and see what the amenities are so I'll report back even if the bite is off. If anyone is there I'll have my Crappie.Com hat on. A day just sitting around near the water is better than shopping with my wife.
I may just see you out there. May go try it early before work and see if i can pull a limit in.
SC is it a 24/7 dock?
yes, you can access it 24/7 but I have talked to numerous people and have also tried it myself at night there and never had much luck. there are lights on the outside and also lights on the inside but like i said I have never heard of any amount of fish being caught in the night time there. Arriving around 630-645 am is usually the ticket. the bite can start real good anywhere from then up until 730 and once they move in there you can have your limit in just over an hour of some good 10"-12" fish. all depends on what the fish do that day. Just remember, Blackwell requires a permit to be in the park. They can be picked up at numerous boxes around the lake (one right at the entrance) and also at the store(when open) located close to the fish house.
Trying to figure out out how to get there before the bite goes cold. Lookin at sat mornin if possible. May have to get directions!
