CATFISH TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get some shad and drift.

They are pulling the lake down to 1008.00 to plant millet for the ducks. Lake is down to 1009.00 today and dropping fast. They will hold it down for awhile unless we get heavy rains. Coon Creek will be unusable after today due to low water for boats of any size. The bright side is fishing is pretty good right now. When they get the lake down and stable crappie fishing will get really good. Water temp is running in the upper 80's and there is no thermocline because of recent rains and water flow.
I know I heard someone tell me that Tracy Daniels told them that the wildlife dept. wasn't doing millet this year. Must have had a change of heart. It is an inconvenience when camping at Coon but does put a lot of waterfowl in the area. I think it also makes for some great bluecat fishing as well when flooded. Should certainly help incourage some better water level management!!!!!!
They started planting Monday. They are planting as fast as the water drops and they have land exposed. Hate it for all the campers on labor day at Coon Creek but fishing does get good.
Need to get out on the "hump" and get some sand bass/hybrids now that the water is down.
Still chocolate brown on the south side.
Hunting season is fast approaching.
My spare time is spent getting food plots for deer ready.

Made it to Kaw yesterday looking for sandbass/hybrids.
Not much activity in the muddy water. Managed a half dozen sandbass and two 18" walleye. Lost one walleye at the boat that would run 3-4lbs. Hated that! Lol.
Thermocline developing at 15-18'.
They finally got the lake down where they want it to plant their millet. Coon Creek is done for awhile unless we get heavy rains. The fella that owns the pontoon on the sandbar may have a small issue when he tries to back his boat out into the lake. Think he may have waited a little to long. Lake fell 8 inches today.
dennishoddy LIKED above post
Ouch! He's going to have a rough time getting that boat off.
I'm pretty sure I saw you yesterday at the Sarge Bridge? Three of us were trolling by the pylons on the bridge looking for sandy's holding in the current.
Man that water is muddy. I crossed the Arkansas twice above Arkansas City this morning, and its the same color. About 3" visibility when we stuck out hand in it.
About 6" toward the dam where we launched. Sure would like to see it clear up.
Wasn't out yesterday Dennis. I normally don't go out on weekends just to many pleasure boaters. They should drop the release down now since they got the elevation down to mudhole level where they want it. You cannot navigate north of Coon Creek now going up to the river due to recent floods filling it in with silt and now low water levels. The lake has really changed from Coon Creek north. Would be good to see it at a steady level for awhile whether it's up or down. Been a challenge all year.
