Fished Monday 2 hours. Caught 8 in 18 t 24 ft of water around brush all nice fish. Water temp was 49 deg. Crappie are still scattered. Colder temps next week should bunch them up and fishing should really pick up. Merry Christmas ad Happy New Year to all.

Took most the day to find them, but when I did... it was awesome! Searched 15 to 20 spots all over the lake from 830 am till 200 pm with one bite and very few fish on the finder. Finally found an area that had a concentration of fish in 20 -25 feet of water with the fish holding from 15-18 feet on standing timber. I wasn't keeping, so I am guessing between 35 and 50 fish landed. Only 2 fish under a pound, average was 1.3 Lb, biggest was 1.87Lb. Depending on where you were at the water was 44 to 39 degrees, visibility was 4 to 20 inches. I used my 10 foot meat dragas and BG storm warning jigs on a weedless Timmy Tom medium blade 3/16 head. They really liked it when you gave the jig enough action to cause that blade to flutter. I have to make room in my freezer and head back next week :biggrin

Fish was biting well from 3 to 4 PM. Caught these in 15 to 18 ft. in brush. Water was muddy with temp around 40 deg. Kept 27 with several in the 1.3 to 1.5 lb range
I know a lot of people practice catch and release including us. Just want to make everyone aware of the 2015 spawn. With the lake flooded most of 2015, we had a tremendous crappie spawn. The fry was able to get back into the flooded brush, which increased the survival rate. Have several relatives and friends that have been fishing Kaw for 35 years for crappie and catfish and say they have never saw so many 2 to 3 inch crappie while throwing their shad nets all over the lake. Point is, don't be afraid to keep some fish. We have to keep the crappie population in check to avoid overpopulation
Are they still searching for the boy from Arkansas? Anyone know what part of the lake they were in?
They are still looking in the Coon Creek area. The state has requested no boats in that area until they conclude their search
