Any shallow bite happening for us bank fishermen?
I figured the creek will heat up in the next couple of weeks but not too sure I want to pull my boat up there through the gravel roads. So pretty this weekend but it sounds like I didn't miss much other than the weather by not getting out. Trying to finish up the honey-do's while it's slow.
Yeah, the over fished lakes should dictate what every lake does for harvest. LOL!
Not gonna happen with me. Never caught a limit of crappie in my life from a major reservoir, but If I do, nothing is going to stop me from posting pics and a big story on this forum.
If you fish on a lake that had been over fished, there is justification for limiting the number/size of the fish your taking. That is whey we have the ODW with electrofishing surveys on lakes. They take samples and determine what is the best option.
Making an overall statement that ALL crappie fishermen/women that take a limit is decimating the population have no Idea of how crappie repopulate and can overpopulate smaller waters taking over the bait fish population resulting in overall fishing of all specie going into decline resulting in lower weights among bass, catfish, etc.
I fish some on a small water lake that has been intensely managed by the ODW. Our 7" crappie have grown to 13-14" size, and there is no limit other than the state regulations. Overpopulation by crappie was the issue. Bass clubs were winning the week night jackpots with one or two bass in the 2-3 pound range. Now they are checking in limits, crappie are bigger, and life is getting better.
Still no limits on size or restrictions on crappie.
Crappie in the flood control reservoirs at times suffer to spring water fluctuations that ruin the spawn. If that happens several years in a row, the crappie and overall fish populations suffer because they loose the spawn. Then there might need to be some restrictions.
I'll continue to fish and post pics of my fish until the ^^^^information is proven false.
Sorry for the rant, but its been stewing in my craw for a couple of days.
Don't stop now Buddy, you are on a roll.
You nailed it dennis. Good read
Any reports haven't had a chance to make it in a couple weeks.
From what I been hearing they are moving shallow
Paul they are moving shallow. Water temp before this front was 65 in the shallows Thursday evening. Caught nice fish less than 2 feet. This cold front may slow them own for a couple of days but they will be going strong by the middle of the week. Caught males and females shallow on jigs and minnows.
Sounds awesome! I am gonna start saving up for 4 dollar a dozen minnows and hit it this week!
