Ever seen a 12' to 15' Persimmon Tree. Well that's what it looks like. If you want it standing out your 50lb rock on the trunk. If you want it laying down place it in the middle. I use copper wire cause it doesn't rust. It's pretty simple cut it on the bank and tie your rock on it then drag it to a previous marked place ......Ranger

George it all depends on DEPTH. In deeper piles say over 15' I like them standing. It gives you more water column for the comfort zone of the fish. Shallow water well you have already guessed the reason. Lay em down. Sometimes if I am just sweetening the pile In deeper water I will lay em down just because.......again I use persimmon cause beavers don't like them. A willow will last about a season before they are cut or just disappear due to being soft and loved. Cottonwood is the same. Hardwood has way to may little twigs on them making it difficult to fish as does evergreens. I know you have to use what's available but sometimes it makes sense to go above and beyond when placing and putting in piles. I have drug trees over a mile just to get the right tree in the correct location. Just the way it is. Hope this helps George......Ranger

Amazing day with WT's at 80 degrees and the crappie hungry. Caught them early and late starting off in 35' and wasn't disappointed. Never found wood that they wouldn't hit in. Started off about 8:30am and closed the LW lid at high noon with 30 keepers. We caught and released another 30 to 40 keeper fish today. Big fish was a whopping 1.74 black. Was a beautiful day on a beautiful lake......Ranger
