Yes, they were suspended 5-6 ft in 14 fow.

this is probably too late to help since you posted yesterday and said u would be out inthe moring but i was out on friday afternoon. trolled crankbaits for about 3 hours. caught about 40 crappie with 19 being big enough to clean. i was trolling points near the river channel in 15 to 17 fow with the cranks running about 12 feet. sure was fun when all 4 rods got hit about the same time.

hey grubby. nice to hear from you. glad to see yall got into em in arkansas. i havent been on thunderbird since my last post so i'm no help with that.
Went out for about two hours this afternoon. Spider rigged deep water and picked up a few 8 inchers at 10-15 feet. No size to them so they got a free ride to the boat and back but it was a nice day to be on the water.

Went out yesterday. Lake is really low. I would say 6'-8' low. I saw fish on the electronic screen. Mostly from 17' to 47'. I fished deep, shallow, drifting, anchored, trolling, cut bait, stink bait, minnows, jigs, crank baits, soft baits,...well, you get the idea. I caught 1 small crappie. Only saw 2 other boats out there. Regardless, it was a BEAUTIFUL day on the lake.
I went out Saturday too, after work. Got there about 1pm and made it home about 530. I never left the marina. Walking to my slip I stopped and talked to one of the regulars who after I asked if he had done any good raised up to show me his 5 gal. bucket over half full of crappie! He had been there since about 8 that morning. When I left to go home I had caught about 20 but had put them all back. The last one I caught was 13" but since I hadnt saved any others i let it go to grow some more. I saw several others fishing around the marina and everyone was catching fish. I was fishing 13.5 fow,45.5 degrees, catching most at around 9 or 10'. I must agree with Chuck as it was a beautiful afternoon.

what marina are y'all going to north or south I know here in about a month is usually when I find my self calling in sick to go fishing off of the docks and I know some one that has a boat slip in calypso cove

Little River Marina...........went today after work and enjoyed the great weather not catching a thing! I did talk to some guys who had been there since mid morning and they all had caught a nice mess of crappie. Weather is suppose to be nice tomorrow so I will probably head back out after work again.
do u have to have a boat slip there to fish or do they have a public fishing dock there because I might get a wild hair and see ya out there boat49

Yes, you have to have a slip to fish at the marina. I did catch a few today and a Grandpa and grandson fishing 2 slips over were haulin em in. Do you still have my phone number?
Hey boat maybe we could have a tbird crappie.com get together out at your slip? Like the few thunderbird posters can meet up and do some fishing there at the slips? Sounds like a good way for us to all meet one another
It appears the majority of the recent post have been about the marina. I don't have a slip at the marina, and don't intend to ever have one. I fished for four hours last Saturday morning and got skunked. Anyone else fishing outside of the marina?
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to ya sooner. Work has taken priority the last week or so being in the chip business! Either a get together or any of you guys letting me know when you want to meet and I can usually make it happen. I get off at noon and I now finish my day in Norman so I am 12 miles from the boat! I usually have my bag of stuff I keep with me, in the truck and everything else is on the boat so I can head that way most any day after work.
hey boat, no worries about the late response. id love to come out sometime and meet you and we can try our luck there at the slips. i dont have the fishing schedule u do but im free on the weekends. maybe we can get together this weekend sometime? o and if the fish aint biting at the slips i got a small bank spot back on the little river that has produced some great size and numbers during the winter months

I fished off the bank for a few hours this morning. I struggled to catch a few 5-6 inch crappie. I caught them all on jigs at approximately 5 feet deep. Weather was amazing for January!

With all the talk about fishing at the Marina, what is the legality of fishing around the marina from a boat? Sounds like it would be a good place to take my kayak out to and drop a line.
I never had a problem fishing around the Marina area.Some boat owners act like they dont like you being there,I dont fish real close to the docks and always give the boaters the room they need to get around.I was out there about a week ago looking around and if we dont get a lot of rain for the lake to come up,We will not have water to fish where we caught crappie last year.The lake looks like it is down about 7 feet,Just guessing!Where I caught them there is no water.Thats ok,I know of several other places to go.Getting back to fishing around Marina,I think they have always had a sign not to fish within 50 ft.I may be wrong.The docks over at Calypso Cove will run you out if you get too close!Good luck and Good Fishing.
Had some pretty good luck Saturday with my grandson at the marina. Wasn't fast and furious but it was steady. I cleaned 25, all 8-12''. Even the smaller ones we were catching were chunks. Water was 45.5. 3 weeks ago when I was out there it was 39. I'm planning on going after work Saturday, if anyone wants to come along shoot me a msg.
I was out running the boat yesterday. Stopped and fished some debris from the tornado just east of the slips. No takers. What depths were u catching them at?
Hey redneck, I was out yesterday also in that same area. What kind of boat do you drive? There was another bass boat that fished around the same area while I was out deeper. Was that you? Only caught 3 yesterday. There were a lot of fish in the area, but they were tough to convince. The biters I found were about 15 ft down in about 24 FOW. Last week, I was able to go for a couple hours one evening and I caught a pile of dinks and 2 keepers. All suspended about 16-18 feet over 37 FOW. The fish are starting to move up the lake slowly but surely. Water temp was 46 yesterday.
Got to go for about an hour this eve. Water temp was almost 51 deg up from 46 last sunday. I only caught one, but didn't expect much with high pressure and North wind. Marked a lot more fish on the graph. They've definitely moved a lot this week and will a lot more this coming week as it's supposed to get in the 70's. CANT WAIT!

the water temperature north of hog creek boat ramp is 53F. couldn't find any water warmer than that today up there. i didn't go over to twin bridges where i should have been probably to see the water temp. the catfish are in the creek channel and i just got through eating one of them.
I've only caught catfish this time of year on accident. What method were you using? Which creek channel? I've seen some big blues caught right after a rain in the twin bridges channel. I've always wanted to be able to catch keep sized catfish at Thunderbird. Thanks.Quote:

This just caused me to think of another question. I believe the thermocline was at about 20 feet last year. I can't remember for sure because I have CRS most of the time lol. One individual, who seems to have caught lots of crappie, told me to go deep as in 30-40 feet. Has anyone done well that deep in the summer? Usually I would disregard advice like this because it goes against most of what I've learned about summer time fishing but this was a reputable individual I think. Would the appropriate place to start be about where the thermocline meets the banks of the channel so they can get up against the ledges? I know this always varies but what had me confused was the advice to go below the thermocline.
I have never trolled crankbaits at thunderbird in the summer time. I mainly do that in early fall. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to try in the summer if nothing else is working. I have best lick with bright colored cranks on bright days and dark colors on cloudy days. I usually start with a few different cranks to see what they want then switch all to the same/similar color bait. I might even try troling some cranks prespawn just to try it. I'd be more than happy to take you out and show u how I do it. I'm no pro but I have learned a few tricks. Trolling is one of my favorite ways to fish. Probably cuz I'm so lazy haha
well been wantin to get out and try thunderbird. Dont know how all this rain is going to effect anything, but thinking about doin some slip corkin off the dam tomorrow. I figure the fish arent up shallow yet so im going to take the girl out and give it a try! lol

If I weren't such a crappy fisherman, I would do pretty well I expect, but I still have a lot to learn about crappie and why they do what they do.
