Water temp last night was 56-57 degrees. Bite was active in north end at onset of evening but dropped off after sunset. Caught fish from 12 to 25 FOW.
Moved to Furnas boat ramp area. Only one couple fishing there. They said that they had just arrived but others were there ahead of them and supposedly didn't catch much.
The bite was slow until the moon rose about about 1/4 of the way.
Ended up catching about 30 crappie for the trip. Largest was about 12-1/2".
Kept 3 good sized white bass to eat. Never had them so I thought I'd give it a try.
Fished the mid lake area Friday night. The water was still 56-57 degrees. When I first arrived, there was a steady breeze, but the lake wasn't too bad (no white caps).
There was one small group fishing one of the docks, another came later but neither stayed all that long.
I decided to try somewhat close to shore, thinking the wind might keep the baitfish there. Fished in 17-25FOW. Mainly caught fish 1-3ft off the bottom. I was using both minnows under a bobber and a double jig rig. The jigs with Monkey Milk baby shad out performed the minnows. However, when the wind and waves picked up, it was tough to detect light bites on the bobber. There were times that I discovered I was "fishing on credit" and hadn't seen the bite that did it.
At 12:30am a brief rain show came through. This didn't seem to affect anything. Around 1:30 the wind picked up more, changed from the SE to be out of the SW and was noticeably colder. My two anchors weren't holding very well and I kept moving from my spot.
Finally called it a night when the waves became very rough and it was starting to rain again. The trip back to the dock was very wet (mostly from the splashing waves coming over by bow).
I ended up catching 35+ crappie. Most were hugging 8-3/4 to 8-7/8 :-(. I did manage a small mess to take home.
No WB, saugeye or perch were harmed on this outing, only crappie.

I tried a new area in the north pool. My second fish was 11" and I thought I was into them. Nope! Just dinks after that :-(
No one was fishing the north pool ramp, but one person with lights was fishing the Furnas Ramp. The bite was slow when I visited but was told there was better action just after dark.
Lots of structure has been exposed around the shore do to dropping lake level. I've though maybe I should tour the perimeter to learn where some new good spots might be.
Has anyone ever used a GoPro and filmed the perimeter? I don't own one.
If you are fishing from a boat and have GPS, mark waypoints where the exposed structure is. if not take a map with you and take pictures of the structure and then mark the spots on the map. Come spring you'll be glad you did!Quote:

All of the docks at the ramps have been removed for the winter. That made launching the boat a bit of a pain.
Water temperature was 47 degrees, air temperature was 33. Fished a cove and caught a total of 28 crappie, had 9 keepers with the largest being just over 11". I caught twice as many with a minnow under a bobber than I did with jigs. Was fishing in 20-22FOW, caught most at 11ft, but some at 5-6ft under the lights when it got dark.
I was there yesterday also, water temp 45/46 caught close to 100 with 54 keepers in 3 hrs , mostly blacks, all on jigs!
Great day to fish, only 3 boats at dock, only saw 1 other boat!
Fun day, wasn't going to fish, just went to check out new depth finder, but since they were biting stayed longer.
Have been to CC 2 times in last week. Each day caught 150-200 crappie. Kept 56 1st day, 59 second day. Mostly blacks over 10" but had many whites over 11". No problem catching fish. Have been doing better on East Fork for size. All fish caught on jigs and crappie nibbles.Quote:
