I fished in N.KY yesterday for a good portion of the day. Nice day to be out but it was sunny and after a front so wasn't expecting a great fishing day.

It wasn't. Creek was stained, not muddy and only a little high. Caught lots of smaller crappie and just a couple of barely keeper crappie. We tried shallow but mostly deeper holes in the creeks but couldn't get into the bigger ones. We ventured to the river but it was chocolate milk still and not good for fishing. It didn't help of course that I was fishing middle of the day in summer.

I talked to guys at the dock and they were telling me how they were catching larger crappie last week in the creeks, in 5' water, while bass fishing. So for you other creek fisherman: do you still catch the larger crappies in the creeks in the July/August timeframe or do you head to the river? I'm trying to figure out whether I need to spend time on the main river in the summer or if I simply limit my fishing to before 11am and after 6pm, I can catch them in the same creek spots. I've gotten to the point where I expect to catch good size fish from late fall through spring. But it's like flipping a switch when it hits mid June and I can't catch a 10" crappie to save my life until last week of September. I need to figure out these summer crappie I'm incapable of taking 3 months off from crappie fishing.
