I'm starting to gorge for winter too...
Been a while since my last post....commitments and obligations have relegated my fishing to all last minute trips. During the summer CJ was a brute. Just offering enough to bring me back. I do a large camp out for about 14 guys every year at the campgrounds in Sept. After six years of good times that all came to an end. A park officer(really young) decided he wanted to flex his muscle. My friend had a Pepsi in his hand and put it in the cooler. The officer forced him to open the cooler where there were 3 unopened beers. Anyhow, he was written a ticket for public display of alcohol. This is a true story... it really dampened the rest of the weekend. We weren't belligerent or loud, just all telling stories by the fire. We usually get sites 89-93. Never again. Back to the fishing, that weekend we had 5 boats on the water and couldn't catch enough for our annual Sunday fish fry. We set a 10.5" minimum on crappie and we only boated 14 fish in 3 days. I did manage a nice 14.5" slab. So, I'm a little put off by the park but will continue to learn the lake. I'll be out in the morning in my buddy's new boat for more of a test drive with a little fishing. CJ really has the nicest ramp setup around. It's bow season so I hope the fishing gets better or I'll be in a tree soon. Good luck out there!
Fished yesterday at the dam from 4ish until after dark. Had only one bite during daylight and toward dusk. After that, I tried minnows on a bobber. Catching lots of dinks at 6-7ft only. Really odd bites. It was like they were slowly sucking them in and swimming away. Bobber would just slowly disappear...
One boat came by and reported little luck. They said water temp was around 65.
Switched back and forth from bobber/minnow to glow curly grubs. They kept biting into the dark. Grew too dark to see bobber, so I moved on to MBR.
Not much action there. Only more dinks right up against the wall.
Beautiful night to fish, but didn't end up taking anything home
I'm heading to the lake again tonight. Is anyone else going to be out on the water?
If you are camping at CJ Brown camping area, and you take a flash light to go potty, are you spot lighting deer ???
CJPolecat
Just wondering
Let me know what Barney says about your flashlight idea. You might only be able to navigate by the light of the moon! LOL!
Well they busted 3 Male Perverts (all in their 60's) at CJ again, who solicited and "flashed themselves" to a under cover cop! I would much rather have that than a bunch of Sexual Deviants running around!:):):)
Remember, this is what got me banned from the other site....since they all thought the Perverts that got busted at CJ were "good" people, and I just didn't understand...and I was calling them inappropriate names!LMAO
There's definitely a need for officers and rangers in the park. I wouldn't go as far to say they don't serve a real purpose. They do and for the most part have a difficult job most of us couldn't do. However, it was a real shame the way our deal went down..... But in the end it's only money and water under the bridge. I didn't mean to get away from the forums intent. Is anyone doing any good up at the lake? Just curious. Good luck out there.
CJ really doesn't cycle again until the water temps hit the 50's....you can catch fish before that but the fish normally are still feeding at night and resting during the day, so you get results like what is happening now...at 50degrees the shad start to slow down, and the Predators know that it is time to gorge and put on fat for the Winter. They will feed around the clock if possible. Jeff (Crazy4Crappie) and I have had several 200 big Crappie days in early November....they will hit like that until the temps hit 39 degrees....that's when the Winter or Ice Pattern starts.
Good Fishing!
