Hello all. My 11 year old son and I would like to get into some serious fishing. We Have fished farm ponds for bass, but I haven't crappie for years. We bought a 14 ft. tri hull boat this spring. It is our first boat and we would like to get it in the water this weekend. We live in S.W. Ohio (Sardinia). any lake conditions or hints about what they are biting on. Thanks John.

I would say Rock Fork, but with the water conditions it might be tough. Its a great crappie lake .

CJ is Open also, it is in the Northern SW section of OH! Water temp is still cold for Crappie, but Walleye are feeding shallow, since they spawn at around 45 degrees...Cats are feeding also.
FYI, Rocky also has the Catfish Tourney this weekend.

1st welcome to the site.
Most all of the SW Ohio lake have reasonably good crappie fishing. This time of year is a time of transition and the fish are on the move. The initial weeks after ice out can find the fish in 2-25 fow and the best advice I can give is keep moving until you find some fish.
Welcome to Crappie.com, great place to learn and friendly people. Crappiemax gave good advise, last week at Acton/aka Houston woods I caught them anywhere from 8ft to 16ft down with minnows, my new fancy trolling motor decided to quit working so I just drift fished and did pretty good, really ended up fishing in 10ft to 25ft of water and handled 43 whites mostly short fish but again they are starting to move. Water temp was 46 degrees and most say between 52 and 55 is when the bite turns on.
CM after a few calls to Motorguide I got the Xi5 working, so I am headed back to Acton for a rematch this weekend, let Me know if You get a free weekend for Ef, I need lessons!
Deep on main lake cover at RF last weekend ....... Jigs...... Water was real muddy , but they gotta eat...... Welcome to the site...... My best piece of advice is follow the guy that's got two graphs the size of big screen TVs on EF ain't that right C-max????
