EF Story
That one year we had all that rain, in the Spring, and all of the lakes were way up, a friend of mine and I decided we were going to go down to EF as soon as the water levels dropped enough to fish for crappie in Todd Run. The day finally came and we headed of with great expectations. We had all of the bait. Redworms, nightcrawlers, wax worms, bass and crappie minnows. We could not fail. Wrong. We couldn't buy a bite. We were getting ready to go to Cowen and try there when I decided I might as well try to catch a bass. I never fish for bass much but did have some lures with me. I tied on a 2 1/2 inch, perch colored, Mimic Minnow. On the first cast I had a slight hit. The next cast I slowed the retrieve just a tad and had another slight hit. I pulled back and connected. I thought as I reeled it in I had a very small bass or had snagged a large shad. That is what it felt like. I got it in and low and behold a ten inch white crappie. Since we hadn't caught anything I kept it. After two more casts I caught another same size. Then it was on. I knew just how fast to reel and how to connect. I began catching one after another. Meanwhile all my friend could manage were some very small chanel cats. I had seven crappie in the basket all about the same size. He was wanting to go as he usually only bait fishes and didn't have any lures. I moved up stream towards the riffells from the boat ramp and caught six more. By then my friends was yelling let's go to the store. "I gotta get one of those lures". I went to the car and cleaned what I had and took him to Walmarts. He bought two Mimic minnows the same color. We then went back and started catching them again. Then he was all smiles. True story.
