Thread: Frustrating weather

Caught a bunch of crappie out on Acton on 1-9, seems like you fish there alot.
A ton of dinks, but caught enough keepers to have made a nice mess if wanted. Big fish was 13.5" white.

welcome to winter/icefishing in this neck of the woods, its here one day and gone the next. Gotta be ahead of the curve, and take advantage of it when you can.

Minnows or jigs Hillbilly? hey I bought a bigger boat this Winter and heard Brookville is good for Crappie, is there any truth to that? or do you like Acton better? thanks

I don't fish at Brookville often but we do catch some nice crappie there plus some bonus smallies

Max, I normally fish Acton for Crappie, but with having a bigger boat now Im trying to decide where to go when the Spring bite starts. Brookville is the closest big body of water minus the Ohio, but East Fork is a close second. Also still wondering if they will lift the HP limit on Acton and Cowan?

What we've found, and keep in mind I don't ice fish but love to hunt the slabs at GLSM, is that channels tend to be thicker with ice and more cover. Unless it's a creek fed channel. Then that moving water will thin it out. I use this website http://seemore.org/webcam.html to see the main lake. No way to tell how thick the ice is. Can always call the Outdoorsman in St. Marys. They are right across from eastbank park. Dan Manning is always willing to give a report, so he can sell bait but...... IF you go let us know what you find out!
