I haven’t had any trouble with my cool hubs but I’m interested in this.

I haven’t either yet.. but my old trailer has got some miles on it.
I change the oil every year.
I noticed this year I have one that is getting water in it, but nothing is leaking out of it??
The level fills up after a few trips to the lake.
So I’m looking into to doing some preventive maintenance so I won’t be doing it on the side of the road

Replace the oil seal that's on the back side of the hub.

Cant speak from experience on trailer bearings, but I think your heading in the right direction. I'm not now or will never be a fan of oil bath bearings. Hard to beat the old tried and true reliability of good old fashioned grease when dealing with high heat and rpms.

I bought my vortex hubs from Ranger. They come already on the spindle. Unscrew and knock out old spindle/hub, pop in the new. About as easy as it gets.

Appreciate the replies.
I called Ranger today and this is what they said.
The only difference in the oil bath and grease hubs is we tap the hub to add the hole to fill and drain.
Remove hub, pack inside bearing with grease, install new seal, then fill hub with grease and pack outside bearing with grease, put bearing buddies for end caps and you now have grease bearings.

Oil bath hubs are on every semi trailer out there. They put more miles on a trailer in one year than I ever will on my boat. I personally would stick with oil bath hubs over grease anyday. Grease is heavy and slings away from bearings and sticks to the inner wall of the hub and not the bearing. Baths will rotate into the oil and keep lubricated plus they will haul a heavier load.

Think about when your trailer is parked for long periods of time, the oil is in the bottom of the hub allowing top half of bearings to rust.
