Mine come off after fishing. Just part of the process when securing the boat. Tie downs on transom, motor locked, chain secured to eyelet on front of boat, secure loose items, and both garmins in a padded case and locked in compartment on boat.

If damage from ridding is what your concerned about I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. I have never taken units off for travel. But do have covers and like Mac turn sideways. Now if parked at camp ground or hotel they get pulled.

Only times I pull sonar units is long trips with a hotel stay, and when I tarp the boat for winter.
I have a 2nd power cord to play with unit over the winter from the comfort of my recliner.
I don't worry about them at campgrounds, gas stations or restaurants.

As a FB agent, I have my boat and accessories thru progressive. Love the FB coverage, but scheduled equipment and RCV(replacement cost) can get high. I know how well our adjusters pay valid claims, but taking a chance with the big company for a little savings.

That being said, I don't think my units have come off my boat in a few years. That why I pay that insurance.

I have agreed value with progressive too. It is only few bucks more than adjuster value, and covers the cost of everything I've added to my boat.

I installed a motion detector under the Rod locker lid. I activate it at the campground, shake the boat, set 110 decibels of scream off. $20 ON AMAZON.
