I used to live next door to an elderly widow. One night I was up late and heard her alarm going off, I went next door to check on her and could not get her to come to the door so I went back home and called the police and asked them to do a welfare check. Police showed up within 15 minutes and I though to myself "dang, that was fast", then they started questioning me about why I was trying to break in to the neighbors house. Turns out when the alarm started going off she called the other slightly less elderly lady across the street and as she was talking to her the lady across the street was looking out her window and saw me walking back to my house from her house and they assumed I had tried to break in and that's what set the alarm off. I had to explain to the police that I had heard the alarm and was just trying to check on her, I'm not even sure they believed me until I told them I had called them to get them to check on her and they were able to verify that they had received 2 calls to the address, one from me and one from either the neighbor or the lady across the street. Crazy thing is until then I thought I had good relationships with both the neighbor and the lady across the street, I still to this day don't understand why they thought I would be trying to break in to her house.
