I see stems under the caps in the picture, chicken of the woods doesn't have stems.
It is not a chicken of the woods mushroom. Growth habit and structure are completely different. The OP didn't say anything about eating it, which is good, because a wrong ID on a mushroom can put you in the hospital or in the ground if it's eaten.
Not to worry, I don't want to even touch this monster, let alone eat it. It grew in my boat shed where I have a slag floor., in about two days. I'm afraid to go check on it now, may have taken over the boat.
Thanks Gene, that helps some. All of the pictures I've looked at would have a bit different growth pattern if outside.
Looks like it's close to a wood post. What kind of wood and where did it come from. Seeds could have been picked up from other wood during milling.
I thought it looked like Armillaria when I looked online, just the stems are thin and longer.
