If you've gone that far with 6, I'd go all the way with it. Prob not a big deal, just something to regret and redo down the line. Btw, I LOVE my ultrex

Getting ready for ultrex 24 volt. Replaced original ,8 ga wire (12 volt) with 6 ga from battery to plug at bow (22 ft). There is a 8 ga lead/pigtail about 1 foot long connecting main wire to TM plug. I have connectors that will connect 6ga to 8 ga. Question is, do I need to replace that lead and plug to accommodate 24 volt or can I use this lead and old plug?

I'm not, I'm running lowrance, check on the member sponsor page, I think Brian @ BBG Marine can get em, or possibly Bill Burnett at big river marine. Not sure where you are located but someone online may be your best bet to get it to your door unless in north MS

By stepping down to smaller wire you are creating a bottle neck of sorts... Less connections, and larger wire along the whole run are optimal! Not sure what it actually takes to make the new rig work, but someone else might have all of the answers...
Not enough resistance to matter in the 1 foot lead. You convert to 24v at the batteries, not the plug. You can change the plugs out if you choose, but the TM only has 8 gauge wire coming out of it anyway. Those short runs won't really matter. The long runs will. I still use 8 most of the time. 6 is better but not necessary.
