I'm a young guy with thick skin. When you work with/lead a large crew of men couped up in a little steel box(my ship) you learn to harden yourself quickly.
What I do know is this, this subject is still creeps up today because of one thing. Passion. I respect passion. I love passion, even if it is aimed at me. Real men have passion! Rees and DonDon, I really hope y'all both can make it. Y'all are part of the senior members of the state site still posting. Much like G, Satdoc, BRM, Canebreaker, Feesherman and the rest of you guys(please don't be offended if I didn't list your name, you know who you are and I don't have time right now to list all you guys) y'all are the names people recognize and when y'all speak, people listen. Y'all are some of the people the other members will watch to see if y'all are coming before they commit. This event is about camaraderie. Let's let this be a new page and maybe repair some past events. We all share a passion for crappie. We are willing to spend untold amounts of money to chase the little devils. I also know that there are many younger guys in this area as well as around the state who would love to meet and learn from the older guys here.
I don't know any of y'all, really. I have seen 4thethump on the lake, I've met Feesherman at Tommy's ramp. I got to watch a weigh in with my family but didn't get to mingle at all because my little girls wanted to go throw rocks in the lake and I tend to bend to their will pretty easily. I fish alone in my boat usually not particularly by choice but most of my friends chase the green fish still. I don't have a schedule that would allow me to be a successful member of MCC as much as I want to join, I simply couldn't make enough tournaments to be a part of a team and the expenses are pretty high when you have to fund it all yourself.
I just want a weekend to bring as many anglers together as possible. Laugh, fish, bs, eat, and share a cold one or two. I want there to be educational air to the events. Teaching each other tips and tricks, boat layout ideas, habitat building ideas. I will select a date or have a quick poll up today. Yes I know this is a shot from the hip, yes I know that the mid March dates are right around the corner and the late April ones aren't much easier yes I know that I'm not leaving everyone much time to make there own plans. I'm literally flying by the seat of my pants on this one. But what the heck, at least I can sleep at night knowing I tried. If two boats show up, that's a win, we will have a great time and new friends will be made.
Bring your family, bring your friends, CDC, MCC all are welcome and encouraged to attend. Stay tuned for more updates this afternoon.

Y'all work together there at Barnett. Take a look at all the campgrounds, cabins and motels in the area. Does the campground look like a campground or a retirement trailer park. We'll need water and electricity at each site, sewer connection would be nice.
I looked at campgrounds, Jackson, MS and Barnett, found one on the north end and one on the south end of the dam. Are there anymore? Reserve America didn't show a listing.
I sent you a PM cane. Those are the two on the lake. Goshen Springs Campground by Tommy's Trading Post on the north end and Timberlake campground on the South end of the lake near Pelahatchie Bay. Both are great sites and true RV parks, not trailer parks. Now they aren't the sprawling sites like some of the northern state parks, they just serve the same function with less acreage. I see boats at both sites but the Goshen Springs site probably caters to more fisherman and is more of a campground. But Timberlake is closer to town and the Hotels in the area. Honestly, this late in the game people may have to end up using both as I have no idea on the reservations at this time. I am currently working on finding a gated site on the water to house boats in case people can't fit/don't want to leave their boats over night at hotels. Each offer their own set of positives over the other and are both close to areas large enough to hold events.
There aren't any cabins to speak of on the lake. Anyone looking to rent a room would do better looking at the local hotels and there are several around within 10 or so minutes of the water on the south end of the lake. I will try and post links to all of these areas in the official post this afternoon.

I haven't looked at the campgrounds rules about parking. Most, you can park a boat trailer on the grass, not your truck. Living quarters, tent/camper must be left on the site when you're not there. I should have space at my campsite to park 1 boat while you go to a motel or home for the night. Bring a cord to charge batteries. If some want to rent a site just for their boat/s, I'll have a tent along with me.
I have several tents myself and can do the same. That's a fine idea! I'll probably trailer my boat home since I live on the lake. I have room for a few boats in my driveway if anyone needs them. I'm a member of the Jackson Yacht Club too, and I'm seeing if they will allow me to use their gated facility at England Harbor to park boats overnight as well.

I'm leaning hard on the weekend of April 22 right now. March 18 was the other date I had in mind but I think that it is just too soon to allow people the make their plans. As well as tying up all the loose ends of the event myself.
Having a Friday night meet and greet/lake review and potluck dinner. Let everyone pitch in and bring a dish. Either coffee and donuts at the ramp or meeting for coffee and breakfast at Tommy's or Pelahatchie Bay Trading post (to support some local businesses, both of which offer minners) sat morning. Then have the main event/fish fry/potluck on Saturday afternoon. Fishing Sunday and maybe meeting at a restaurant for those who still stayed in town.

I will be there I want to do a seminar on 1 type of fishing it is called wannabe fishing the "UGLY TRUTH" it will teach folks that are extremely ugly how to catch 2 fish instead of 1 :biggrin all jokes aside I would love to come to Barnett and learn from you guys
Lol, you set the date MidMs whatever is convenient for you. I will come own down, although I will stick to lodging in either Madison or Rankin County, I don't take too good to Hinds, get enough of that watching your back mess up here in / near Shelby County... Don't let others dictate your event, lay the ground rules and come as you please..
