Trailer question.......

Does anyone have this problem? I have a Dixie Craft trailer for my Wareagle. The square tubing that is adjustable up and down and holds the winch is secured by a hexhead bolt that just tightens against the metal (the square tubing holding the winch is a little larger and slides up and down). My problem is I tighten the bolt to the point where the tubing that the bolt snugs against actually bends, but it works loose and the tubing slides down, making loading the boat difficult, until another adjustment of the roller and re tightening. This is an ongoing problem. Is there a way, outside of welding the tubes together, that would work? Thanks.

Set it like you want....Drill hole all the way through both sets of tubing and put a long bolt in and lock nut.

Thought about that, G, but it will tighten on the outer tubing only. It will keep it from sliding, but it will wobble a little no matter how much you tighten it. May have to do that anyway, at least it wont slide down. Thanks.

Duck, check to see if you could slide some kind of shim up inside the part that slides up and down. Then drill your hole through the tubes and shim material. That way when you tighten the bolt it will snug against the shim and eliminate the wobble. Or you could do something like find a u bolt that would fit snug around the smaller tube. Install it just below outer tube once you have it adjusted. Snug it up and upper tube can't slide down. You can find those that are for square tubing at tractor supply in the hardware section for gates. Should have one that comes with a flat plate on one side that goes on before you put the nuts on.
