Default So much for being off of work

About noon today Ms. Marsha arrived home and came running into the house saying smoke was billowing out from under the hood of my Jeep Cherokee.I ran out and opened the hood and there was oil every where.Just from looking at it not running I couldn't tell where it was coming from so I cranked it and there was a loud clattering coming from the engine.Sounded like a lifter went bad and the rocker arm was clattering really loud.Didn't explain where the oil was coming from.I kept listening and realized it was coming more from the right hand side of the engine when I noticed the power steering pump pulley was wobbling really bad.Thank God it wasn't the motor. The bearings in the pump had let go and all the oil was actually power steering pump fluid. I hauled arse down to the Zone and they didn't have 1 but could get it by 6:30 today. That wasn't gonna work so I cut across the street to O'reillys. They didn't have 1 there but the Horn Lake store did. I went there and got the pump and went back to the Zone and rented a puller/ installer kit.Went home, went to pull the pulley off the old pump and it was seized so bad that it peeled the lip off the old pulley. Back to the Zone for a new pulley I went.Went back across the street to O'reilly's and got my core charge back then back home.Put the new pump in my vice and pressed the new pulley on.New o-rings on high pressure line to pump and in reservoir.Reinstalled the new pump, back on with the belt, Belt adjustment, filled her with fluid and bled the air out of the pump till the fluid ran clear and was no noise in the steering.Got it done by 5 o'clock. So much for a day off from work.Glad we got the ole girl fixed though. Sure would have hated if that had happened on the way to Spring Camp or if I was at work and Marsha was out some where with the grand baby in the truck.I just hope that Sunday is truly a day of restGonna take a ride down to the Butla tomorrow and check out all the flood water.I'll post some pics when I get home.Kdavid, I was thinking about you the whole time I was wrenching on this old truck!

Did you have a carport or garage to get into?
Swapped out engines and trans under a plastic sheet twice. Good thing they were carts and ready to go.

Marsha had stopped shy of the garage to keep from spilling oil onto the floor but I ended up pushing it into the garage before it started raining.
