That's exactly what I do for my top drop. I use a regular barrel swivel to attach my rig to the main line.

Make a loop in your line and wrap it around and through itself three times. Cinch the loop knot tight until you have a loop in the line. You can make the loop as long as you want. Cut the loop and attach your hook or jig, or do like I do and slip a Fas Snap down the line and tie it into the loop so you can change baits without changing the rig.
Single-Loop Knots
BTW, I use method number 2, style number 9 sort of.
Lost me...cut the loop?
Once the knot at the back of the loop is tightened down, you can cut the loop to make a single line just like the drop coming off of the three way swivel.
Since the loop doesn't slide shut, neither will the line when you cut the loop. The knot holds it with the main line. One less knot than a three way takes when you consider tying on the barrel swivel at the top of the rig. Much faster way to tie the rig.
I've done that a few times. End up with the bait wrapped with the sinker.
Cool..I learned something..May have to try that
I always make loops but I don't cut em. I just push the end of the loop thru my snap and pull it over and tight. I have noticed no appreciable difference in having double lines vs cutting and having a single line.
Only problem i have with the loops is seems like it weakens the line. If its going to break its going to break at the loop! I have had better luck with swivels
