Sounds like they're denning up right there close. Might do well to check out everything around the yard.

I have a buddy of mine Jeff Rogers that's a UPS driver in the Grenada area. He killed a 5 1/2' timber rattler on Hurricane Rd yesterday in a customers front yard. 14 rattles and a button. The home owner said it was the 5th one killed there in a week. Must be heading in to hibernate.
Hopefully I'll get some pics from my buddy of the snake. He took it home for the head and skin.

I killed another rattlesnake in my dog yard last week. The dogs had something treed and when my daughter when to see what it was she heard it rattling. This was the third one that I have killed over the years in the dog yard.
Be safe and good luck fishing
Timber rattlers are one of the most beautiful snakes I have ever mounted. I recently got one in that was 67 inches long and bigger around than my arm. It was killed last December by a client who was squirrel hunting locally.
I had never even thought about eating snake until I was skinning this one out and saw all that beautiful white meat. I cut it off 6 inches behind the head and 6 inches in front of the tail. It produced 3 1/4 pounds of bone-in meat ($40 a pound at some places). I cooked a few pieces to try and my wife and I loved it even though it was a little chewy (I cooked it too long I think). My daughter is now wanting me to fry the rest at a family fish fry so the whole family can try it.
