Its the phosphate in the Dawn....most other soaps do not have that in them any more.....it works somewhat but not good. You need a product that has pyrethrin in it.

Didn't notice it till now, kinda surprised how fast this ground nest appeared, but there it was, Yellow Jacket Central right out my front door. Looked like a busy airport with three going in, and three going out, on a constant basis, a foot from my front door.
Anyway, this had to stop. So I sprayed Hornet Killer stuff all over in and around it, and hmmm, did not even seem to slow them down. An hour later, the spray soaked into the soil, and they continued their flight fest.
Then I tried something I read on the Internet. I waited till dark, and placed a bucket with a hole in the bottom of it over their ground hole. Poured a couple "home cleaning" products in it. I'm not gonna say cause I don't want others trying it. The mix is supposed to create a toxic gas and kill them. Well, it didn't. In the morning, there was another entrance about a foot from the first one, and they were busy bees, flying in and out.
So, another remedy I found on the Internet was Dawn. Essentially they get covered with soap and can't breath, and die. What I read was to pour the soap in the hole then run water in it. I did that, and in addition, I used another bucket and made a big bubble bath for them all over the entire area. I figure this would fill in any other holes they might have. Seems like it should work. Sure seems to cover a lot of ground. I'll let you know if they are gone, or if they survive this experiment and are just a little cleaner! lol

you don't want to mess around with jackets. had a young sq dog i was training walk right into one. dog went into immediate shock. i went to pick her up and got hit three or four times. by the time i got back to the truck i was sick as a mule. got some benadryle down the pup and headed to the er. they gave me a shot and a script. by the time i got back in the truck the pup was sitting up, but unresponsive. we both survived but believe me you don't want to mess around with these critters.

Had one put me to the ground on a golf course years ago. No one else around. Layed there struggling to breathe about 20 minutes till I felt better. Really thought I might die. Definitely scared.
