remember 95% of chevy trucks are still on the road. The other 5% made it home. Read it here last week or so.

I think you are probably talking about the 5.4 Triton and it was mainly in year models 04-07. How do I know you ask??? Well, I got to find out first hand of the problems and ended up with a new motor about a month ago. I am in no way a motor head but have learned enough since this little fiasco that I read up on it......just wish I would have know before hand!!

I haven't owned many brand new vehicles and really never had problems with the used ones I bought but this one took the cake and made up for it. I had a 2010 Ford F150 Supercrew that I sold because my son was about to turn 16 and we thought it would be good for me to get something we could pay off and then be able to get him something. So I found a 2004 F150 Supercrew Lariat with the 5.4 with 130k miles. Miles really didn't bother me because lots of trucks will last 250k+ these days with minimal issues. Ran great but about 6 months after I bought it I started hearing a little "ticking" noise and started asking around. Main response I got was "Yeah, that's just typical with those Fords" so I thought nothing of it. About 6 months after that it pretty much laid down on me one day. Long story short is the cam phasers that go bad in these models and it happens quite frequently from what I read after the fact. I could have spent about $2k+ to fix the cam phaser problem but I opted to spend a couple more thousand and got a refurb motor with 3yr/100k warrenty. I now have enough $$$ in this truck that I will be keeping it for a long while and just hope nothing else fails because a week after I got the motor in it the alternator went out!!! So if any of you out there have the 5.4 from 04-07.....DO NOT IGNORE THE TICKING!!!

2008, stuck injector, pistons burnt, no compression after $7500 worth of other broke parts fixed. Prob would have run like new but a chance I wasn't gonna take for the money
