All these pictures of smoked meats have been having a negative impact on our meat smoking. I used to go yo the grocer and have the meat department to myself. Then a few folks started posting pics of butts and loins. Before long the word got out on the masterbuilt smoker. Quickly got to where you couldn't go into Lowes and look at one without someone wheeling up and looking at the same one you were looking at. Got to where folks would wheel by and see you inspecting one and when you left they would pull up and start reading the same label you just left! Then folks began giving out the exact directions as to how to smoke butts and fatties. Meat counters at the big four ( Kroger, Sam's, Walmart and Costco) can't handle this demand. Notice how the butts have increased in price and the size is sure to decrease. Gonna be hard to find a decent keeper butt if this keeps up. In closing I suggest we might post a simple pic of smoked meat but curtail all the info. Thank you.

The reason pork has gotten so expensive is a virus, PEDv, has killed an average 100,000 young pigs each week since it started in 2013. I think it started in Iowa but has spread.

IMO...it all started when they lowered the minimum pork butt size to 5lbs. They should increase it to 6lbs like before!!

That's why almost every one I see is just a little less than 5 pounds. Heck! I even saw one fellow that had converted his washer into a cooler so he could take more of the 6 pounders back north. and "G" those armadillo eggs are about to come off the smoker.
