How much line did you have behind the boards, enough to allow the cranks to reach the intended depth?

Yes, you have to treat the amount of line just like the board is not there. If your trolling chart says you need to have 75 feet of line out for a certain bait to get so deep, you have to let that amount of line out, clip the board on then let out the amount of line it takes to get the board the distance away from the boat you want it to be. Sounds confusing at first but once you see it in real time, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.
