    Default Surprise find

I stumbled on some chanterelles on my climb down to the fishing hole this morning. After two hours without a bite, I packed up my gear and went on the hunt. I foraged almost 2 lbs in under an hour. Had to stop because my bag was full.

They are delicious, unlike any other mushroom. And their smell is heavenly.

There are too many of them for me to know which ones are the eatables and which ones are bad. The bad ones will make you null and void. The morels are the only one I know and there is a false one of them.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

Their name sort of rhymes with what you get if you eat the wrong shrooms.

Chanterelles are easy in that respect. They have one look a like, called Jack o'lantern, but they're easy to tell apart. Chanterelles grow in soil, Jack o'lanterns grow on wood.

I've never picked any of my own, mainly because, like the others here I've never been taught the difference between good and bad 'shrooms. I do love to cook and eat them. Maybe you can educate us, I see a lot of guys north of here picking morels, do they grow here also?
