Default ? for the pontoon folks

Can any of you pontoon guys give me any information on your set-up? Boat size, trolling motor size, etc? I am looking to setting up my 22' pontoon for cranks so I can get more fishing and family time this summer. My 90HP 2 stroke engine will idle the boat around 2.5 mph and I know I can get that down a little with a troll plate or sock but I do not feel it would be good on that engine easing around that much? Was thinking of just going the trolling motor route and was not sure if the 80# was enough or if I needed to step up? Just hate having to have 4 batteries in the pontoon boat if not needed. Anyone ever mounted a kicker on a pontoon? How about an engine mounted trolling motor?

I'd really consider tradin the two stroke for a four stroke Yammie or such. You'd still be able to have a conversation without yelling and you don't feel like your fogging the lake for folks.

But the two stoke keeps all of the millfoil bugs away while fishing Guntersville... LOL! I know what you are saying and I have considered that, just more money than I want to sink into this boat right now. And the way the motor is mounted and covered, it is really not a problem with the noise. It will run mosquitos off though!

Callshy, I fish some out of a friends 22 ft,er. 80 lb terrova and 2 biggest napa batteries. It pulls it just fine unless real windy then a little hard to control. About 6 hrs battery life unless real calm. It will get it up to 2.7.

Scott I ran an 80# 24 volt engine mount on a 20' toon for pulling cranks. It did a fine job of pushing the boat. The only down side is if you leave the steering console to land a fish the boat want to drift to one side or the other. If I had keep it to guide from I was gonna put a Terrova on the front so it would keep it going straight while the engine mount pushed. Wished I was closer I would let you try if out for yourself, I keep it when I sold my toon, was gonna put it on my Ranger but just couldn't drill the holes in the VMax motor.

Thanks for the info. I was leaning toward the Terrova and away from engine mount as it would give me more flexiblity to take the kids bream fishing and such.

Easier to pull a string than it is to push it.

I've seen folks pull cranks with the motor in reverse before.
