Id say depends on the live well. The one in my WE is insulated, so it can last many hours.. Others I've had, only a few hours..

I've always done it this way. Use clean bottles, at least inside, and clean water and you have ice water to drink all day too.

I have even bought the cases of water at wal-mart and froze those. They work great and as you remove them it opens up a little more room in the chest. Plust you can reuse them.

Best solution I have found. They last 2-3 times longer than crushed ice. I use drink bottles in minnow buckets and 2 liter in cooler and live well.

I buy gallon jugs of distilled water at the grocery store for 98 cents a gallon and keep them in my freezer. They keep a livewell or cooler cold for a long time plus you have distilled water on hand to add to your batteries if the electrolyte gets low.

We were culling out of the live well at Sardis last year during the tourney in June, fish we were just keeping for eaters were in the cooler on ice and our weigh-in fish in the livewell (live fish weigh out better). We had 29 in the boat and when we caught a fish that bettered our stringer the smallest fish in the livewell was removed and put back, the shock of the warmer water of the lake would shock them for a little bit, Osprey got a couple of em for breakfast. We had 2 liters bottles of ice in the livewell and an air pump running on them, no problem keeping them alive. When just fishing in the summer its very rare I have a problem, turn the aireator on and plug the well off so it will stay full running out the overflow, off the water by 11 most of the time anyway no matter how many fish we have.
