Default Good read on Washington tourney results

The March 1st 2014 National Championship preamble was held on Lake Washington in Greenville, MS. The event was sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Mercury Motors, Greenville/Washington County Tourism and Visitors Bureau, Trop Casino, Bait N Thangs and Mitchell Distributing-Budweiser. 184 anglers came from around the country to compete for the top prize. Greenville will host the National Championship on September 24-27th, 2014.

“Mike Parrot and Whitey Outlaw take home 1st Place honors with 7 fish that weighed 16.13 lbs.”
A cold week gave way to warming temperatures on Friday and Saturday as anglers experienced great fishing. The Greenville hospitality was incredible which included bonuses provided from Trop Casino. Trop Casino awarded bonus prizes of $250.00 cash and $250.00 free play money for first place. $150.00 cash and $150.00 free play money for Big Fish and $100.00 Cash with $100.00 free play money for top male female team.
Mike Parrot and Whitey Outlaw set the stage for the national championship by weighing in a seven fish limit at 16.13 lbs. to win the one-day qualifier. Sponsored by Rockport Rattler, BnM Poles, Vicious, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Mid South, Yeti Coolers, Ranger Boats, Mercury Motors, Drift Masters and TTI Blakemore, the team stated they found the same pattern during pre-fishing and had to be patient on competition day. They begin the day slow trolling at .5 mph and increased their speed up to .9 mph as the waters warmed which helped catch more and larger fish. Water temperatures warmed from 49 degrees to the lower 50’s as the day progressed. They were fishing in 3-7 foot waters, catching fish just 20 inches deep. Outlaw and Parrot took a few different steps to help catch the shallow fish. They started using Rock Port Rattler Outlaw Max 3 hook jig heads, they turned off their electronics and trolling motor to keep from spooking the fish and moved further away from boat traffic. Their tactics paid off as they earned $5,000.00 plus the $500.00 Trop bonus.

“2nd Place Team of Rodney Neuhaus and Kyle Schoenherr with a seven fish weight of 16.04 lbs.”
Second place was the Road Runner team of Kyle Schoenherr and Rodney Neuhaus., weighing in at 16.04 lbs. Schoenherr and Neuhaus have placed in the top 3 in 3 national championship and will be looking forward to the opportunity to win their first national championship. Sponsored by Road Runner, Tru Turn, BnM Poles, Lowrance, Tite Lok, MidSouth Jigs and Harvest Clean, the team fished a large combination of MidSouth Jigs on Road Runner jig heads and Tru Turn Hooks. They were fishing in 6’8” to 7’4” waters, catching fish 16-30 inches deep. They earned $2500.00 for second place.
Biggest crappie to date is 3 lb 9 oz at grenada in 1988. Still hangs on my wall.
