how long is the mast u are using is it just rope,what kind,thanks:biggrin

The traditional answer is to free spool the inside board until its behind the fish on the outer board but the reality is if you don't fish extremely deep and have the patience to wait until the fish surfaces you can ski him in front of the inside board.

Bfish the slack was my concern with the soft tissue around a crappies mouth which can tear or get an elongated hole quite easily. I have watched several You Tube videos using that system but usually they are chasing larger and stronger fish with a harder mouth.

My mast is just a Spyderlok rod holder mounted on my bow cap. I used some old metal reels (for wire fishing), but large fly reels would work to hold the line (no rope). I then zip-tied a small pulley to the ends of the rod holder. Rod holder is 24" tall.

My old man uses a piece of PVC mounted into a seat base (3" diameter, I believe).

As far as "rope" goes, I use "planer board line" which I think is just heavy dacron line. I think I am on year 9, but it is time to replace.

This is the best picture I have. You might be able to make out things if you look at my fish bud's rear, haha.

EDIT to add: I am trolling with a kicker. When on short solo or low wind days I can go with my trolling motor (only 12v single battery right now).

Not a huge issue, IMO. I loose way more when lifting the rod out of the holder (with and without planer board) than when the clip releases. Not sure why it is that way, but it is for me.

u ever pulled jigs on ur boards or would the smaller boards be better suited for that and what line u use,i will be using powepro braid

I have pulled jigs with planer boards especially when they prefer for the bait to be moving slowly (.9 - 1.1) which is still long lining speed.

I prefer 10# mono for pulling cranks.
