Major, start out with a good sized hen. Inject it, rub it down and cook it WAO "wide azz open" for about an hour. Give or take. Don't forget to put something on the skin to make it brown up.

The instructions didn't address it, but should it be "broken in"?

I would spray the basket with Pam and turn it on for a 1/2 hour or so, just to burn the new off of it.

I didn't ,just threw prime rib in it and cooked it
