    Default Fish frozen twice ?

A few months ago I was told that fish can be thawed and refrozen with little or no effect on quality ?

    Any thoughts ?

Always been told that defrostinfg and refreezing anything will degrade the texture of the meat or produce and make it mushy. When you defrost a peice of meat, it looses some of the moisture that was inside it. If you re-freeze, the defrost it a second time, you loose that much more moisture. Also, when refreezeing, some of the moisture that has leaked out of the cells in the tissue refreezes inside the tissue itself. These tiny ice crystals destroy the meat on the cellular level, as they cause the cells to burst and loose thier shape, resulting in meat with less texture.

At least that is the way my wife, the biology teacher, explained it to me... Sort of.

    Default Fish frozen twice ?

I agree with the slight texture loss. I have been refreezing stuff ever since I had my own place. No one ever complains and it always gets eaten.
    "Little effect" like you said.

I agree with Iwannafish - but, if you're questioning it, why not give it a try? Frankly some people are not as particular as others, and eating twice-thawed fish may not even be noticeable for you. I've found that, often, things that bother me don't make a bit of difference to others, and vice-versa.

I try never to freeze/thaw/freeze , but be assured if you buy meat at a grocery you have eaten it that way .

Normally I cut my grenada filets into 3 pieces and package one piece to a bag. that way I can thaw out 1 package to feed the two of us or 2 packs for 4 or three packs to feed the neighborhood. If the filets are from Barnett I put about 10 or 12 in each package. Works out the same.
