Thanks Chaney. Don't know what he used but it was administered by a nurse anesthetist. He introduced himself and asked me if I was ready for a nap. What geezer could refuse that!!

Hope your results are good and your upcoming procedures go well. I woke up very briefly during bypass surgery. Couldn't open my eyes or hear anything, but could feel stuff going on. About the time I was hoping I wouldn't have to feel the rest of the surgery I was out again .
I found out that Versed is known as a "truth serum". You are awake but don't know it. You will answer questions and respond to commands but you don't remember doing it. Dangerous. Lol They mix it with a sedative of some type.
I remember when they scoped me at Oschner before they removed my colon. They were checking to be sure I hadn't developed cancer due to my ulcerative colitis. I woke up before they were through and watched somebody walking through a cave on TV. Lol

You are correct diprivan must be given by a nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist. Most people ink that they are put to sleep for the colonoscopies. Actually you are just sedated. We administer versed so you don't remember it and fentanyl or Demerol to make the gas pain tolerable. I use diprivan on top of those drugs. If you are done in a doctors office without a Crna or mad then you can expect just the versed and narcotic.
When you go for your shoulder surgery I would ask for a inter-scalene block. This numbs the nerve to the shoulder 16-24 hours without pain. Kinda like going to dentist and getting your tooth numb. Don't have all the side effects from the narcotics like nausea and vomiting, etc.
To wake up in cardiac surgery is probably one the most common types of surgery to have recall. The incidence of recall is around 1% of population. Most people describe being awake and can't move and don't hurt. The reason is we use paralytic medications to provide muscle relaxation on certain procedures.
