You ever figure out a solution to the problem of line getting inside the Okumas? I had never had that issue before yesterday. I put new line on my reels night before last and made sure to put the max capacity, 330 yards of 10#, so I would get accurate lineout readings on the counters. I ended up fighting those reels all day, I never could get the line back out without breaking it. Re-stringing 14ft poles by yourself in a 16ft boat is no fun, especially when you get through two thirds of the eyes and the weight of the reel causes it to flip over and the lever hits the deck and trips so you cant pull any more line out so you run back to the other end of the boat to flip it back and while you do this the line falls back out of half the eyes you had done so far. Probably would have been real funny to anyone watching. I went through this drill about 5 times yesterday, I was this close to throwing the damn things overboard.

I aint got no good intentions.

Is your casting drag tite enuff, what I have found on all these reels is that if it is too loose it will let the spool move sideways back and forth just enuff for the line to get behind there. Every time I have this happen that is the problem.

John has a good point. Which mod are you using 15 or 20. I had that problem when I first started pulling, learned how to take them apart to get the line out and put them back together. I switched to 20's and have never had that problem with them.

I have the 20s and the counter is not accurate. With a full spool of 10# stren they read 135 at a measured 150. Have to calibrate em. Who cares. As long as you let out the same amount each time you catch a fish. Crappie are ignernt. They can't read a counter.

I have the 15's. I've never used baitcasters, is the casting drag the little round metal knob on the side? I think I did mess with those when I was changing the line out, I had never touched them before. Hell, I just figured out I could turn off the baitclicker two trips ago. I've always used light tackle and egg beater reels, I keep a medium action spinning rig around for whenever I'm forced to bass fish.

Thats it, it adjusts tension on the spool. Tighten it up some and it should take some slack out.

I've got a 20 that I need to send back!I had a fish hit a crank so hard that it broke something inside that will not allow the lock and unlock to work. It stays in free spool all the time and will not lock!I don't want to crack the screws because it might void a warrenty!
