Default Thinking about adding a radio to my boat, looking for one that has the weatherbands

on it and was wandering if you guys could tell me it connecting it to the cranking battery would be advisable ? Have thought of adding a small lawnmower battery just for the radio and a in-dash cigarette lighter plug for charging cell and such if needed. Getting to need some music and would be nice to have the weatherband at hand for a back up to my phone, since sometimes where I fish signal on the phone is kinda limited. any of you guys got a setup like this ? I am thinking of constructing a box of some kind to mount the radio in as I don't really have room on the console for one.

    any input greatly appreciate

I've thought about doing the same thing. I don't see any problems in doing such.

I run everything off my cranking batt, radio, 2 depth finders, aireator for minners, and my live well pump constantly keeping fish going this summer and have had no problems. Radio ain't gonna pull enuff to hurt anything at all.

You could get a Marine band two way radio with a weather band in it. I bought a handheld weather radio for twenty something bucks at BPS runs on aa batteries...it has the weatherbands and it has a alert mode....lightes flash and it beeps....then comes on by itself and gives the weather alert. Or you can turn it on manually at anytime to listen to the weather. Been using it for several years.....works great. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done.

I've got one also G, was just thinking with the other radio I wouldn't have to worry about D cell batteries going down all the time and maybe have better reception.

Mine has the small double A cells and they will run that little radio about a year it seems like...long time anyway. I just pull the antenna up and hang it on my boat console......works good in my storm house also.

Weather was my excuse to my wife for getting a smart phone. I can check the radar any time. Saved me at I believe Sardis last year when those showers hit us
